They're Just Not That Into Us

I read somewhere that SETI (Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) is changing it's name to SETT (Search for Extra Terrestrial Technology) so maybe they are changing their thoughts about what to search for. They must find the technology before they find the intelligence that created it.

i love the title.

i am one of those people who really believes there are other intelligent life forms in the universe, and i am baffled that we have yet to find a single thing except ice cube on Mars. and i don't mean because Earth-dwellers aren't trying hard enough, but because you would expect others would make contact (especially if all those archaeological findings in South America and Easter Island were really geared toward aliens who made contact with those people).

i'm sure there's a lot we don't know and for a reason (better be a damn good one), but it's still... strange.

Could their level of intelligence just be so much higher that they know where to hide from us?

Mankind always does best when there are frontiers to explore. Space and the deep ocean are all we have left now. That's why I support NASA. I'm an old star trek fan and a firm believer in "brave new worlds." Rather than ponder why they don't come here - we should go there.

You need to think about the area of the sky that the radio antenna actually can cover at one time; it's smaller than the tip of a pin held at arms length to the sky. Think about that and then think about how everything is moving and that radio signals from extra-terrestrials could take millions of years to reach us. Hopefully then you'll come to the conclusion that it's not surprising that they haven't found anything and it's kind of funny that they're even trying.

In terms of our own concepts of "time",... what's the possibility that humanoid aliens are inhabiting at this very moment? Either millions of years ago,... or millions from now.
I wonder if a theory exists that states that alien life is possible, or probable, just not within the human epoch?!!?
So,... our journeys & searches have been futile.
So let's focus on THIS planet and her creatures.

They came, they saw, they got the hell out. I envision alien cultures who hold us in disdain, but like our culture...all those TV shows and musicals. We influence them remotely. Our slogans clog their language.

Scenario! Aliens are Earthlings from the future, coming to help us with shit! Yeah?

Since we are looking for them using fairly low power electromagnetic waves the easiest way to explain it is that they don't use them and we can't detect them from using that method.

I feel like the government and other groups want to find other intelligent life to pick a fight or something...like being the most powerful, feared and destructive intelligence on this planet isn't enough...we have to find others out there and make sure we're better...
