Oregon is 6th state in 2009 to legalize hemp cultivation

Oregon’s House of Representatives voted Monday night to legalize the cultivation of hemp, becoming the sixth state to do so just this year.

Oregon’s Senate voted 27 to 2 in favor of the new law last week. Monday’s 46 to 11 House vote means that the measure will become law, barring an unlikely veto by Governor Ted Kulongoski.

The move is part of a rapidly growing nationwide trend to liberalize laws relating to marijuana. Hemp is a botanical cousin of marijuana, traditionally used to make clothing, rope and other durable fiber goods.

“Hemp is a versatile, environmentally-friendly crop that has not been grown in the U.S. for over fifty years because of a misguided and politicized interpretation of the nation’s drug laws by the Drug Enforcement Administration,” Vote Hemp President Eric Steenstra said in a statement.

“While a new bill in Congress, HR 1866, is a welcome step, the hemp industry is hopeful that President Obama’s administration will recognize hemp’s myriad benefits to farmers, businesses and the environment.”

New things happen the further away from Virginia you get. Pity the poor fools that listen to their siren's song and come here. Land of Communists where doctors and dentists collaber together and set same prices for all services. Pity me for wasting my LIFE here but, that's about to get corrected shortly. Politicians owned by lobbyists. Tobacco-poisoned children can't press a lawsuit against Big Tobacco (so they never have to have a new industry). <><><> What's the topic again? I got lost in 1850 slavery laws now equally applied to Whites.

Hemp is very Eco friendly. I've heard of a building material 6x stronger then concrete made out of hemp and sawdust.

In the present climate where people are scraping the walls with their fingernails to get away from God -and anything natural that reminds of God- hemp doesn't have a chance to go into wide acceptance. If they're allowing it now it's only for a time, a tease, til SCIENTISTS make something MAN-MADE THEY CAN BRAG ABOUT.

Then all hemp farms will be razed and outlawed all over again. Along with any potheads "accidentally" caught inside the borders. They'll just say they were the lost followers of David Koresh and everyone will applaud.

'Omega 3, 6, 9, and lots of protein...' Hemp is regarded as a superior replacement for (dwindling and contaminated) fish oils. Hemp seeds ideal balance of omega oils, amino acids, essential fats and protein is unparalleled in nature...

Well, good question, but usually whenever someone feels a need to bolster their claims by tacking on "unparalleled in nature" it's a sales pitch or they have an agenda. I seriously doubt a plate of hemp seeds has more protein than a plate of western steer.

    Just a guess.
