Franken wins Minnesota Senate Seat

Image...
The Minnesota Supreme Court on Tuesday declared Democrat Al Franken the winner of a tight U.S. Senate race over Republican Norm Coleman, which should give Democrats the 60-seat majority they need to overcome procedural obstacles and push through their agenda.

Coleman has said in published reports he is unlikely to appeal the state court's decision to the federal courts. Under state law, the court's decision gives Franken the right to occupy the seat, which has been up for grabs since last November's election.

Minnesota Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty has said he will certify the election winner based on what the state court decides.

If the decision holds up, Democrats will control 60 of the 100 Senate seats -- enough to overcome Republican procedural roadblocks in a clear boost to President Barack Obama's agenda.

    ughh....finally!

next step would be for Coleman for take it to the Supreme Court, which he will not...by all indications.

FINAL COUNT: Franken wins by 312 votes, out of 2.7 million votes cast....

About time. Minnesota needs their representation. This tug-o-war has been getting lame.

And this only really works out for Obama if all 60 dems vote along party lines (though i would suppose it would be easier to get democrat hold-outs on board with a piece of legislation than reaching across the isle)

It's unfair that they held Al Franken from his much deserved winning seat for as long as they did. I'm not sure how long you can appeal a decision that was clearly made by the people long before.

I wonder what Norm is allowed to do with all his donation money. iirc he made over a million after the election alone.

Get real GodsnLiberals. Franken is a very smart man who happens to be very politically astute. Plus he isn't having an affair.

Franken's win makes 60 senate seats for democrats. However that does not mean a rubber stamp for Obama in the Senate.

This is karmic revenge for Americas missed opportunity to have P.T. Barnum in congress. Al is going to be a much needed bit of both levity and frank language. The Senate is called the most deliberative body on earth. The thing it needs more than anything is to have its tradition thrown unceremoniously on its head! It needs to be shaken up and reminded that it isn't just an exclusive club its the representative of the public will. People vote for Senators for action not fillibusters or cloture.

    fina-fucking-lly!!

like barack obama (well, not exactly, but close), he has a lot of weight on his shoulders because he went through so much to get the seat. i'm sure expectations weren't as high for Al, but he basically better be one of the best senators in the country because i'm sure a lot of people are standing back with their arms folded.

I wonder if he will get some kind of cable show.
Can politician's have some kind of format like Daily Show/ Colbert Repor ?
He would be good. Or even a straight forward talk show.
Does anybody remember him from skits on the First Season of Saturday Night Live.(1977 ithink) He was a writer.
    Funny stuff.........................

Its about time! I think Coleman was just being a sore loser because he was so sure that he would be re-elected.

Good news finally, this travesty is over. Franken will be an excellent senator, and hopefully will use his humor to ridicule the corporate lap "blue" dog conservative democrats who are holding up progress on many issues.

Now if we can just get Bill Maher to run, get elected and bring some real heat on the blue dogs

Yes, and now you should know little more about your Gov. If your not outraged, your not paying attention. I like Al but Congrass is going to eat him alive. when the parties don't get their way, they'll kill ya. We'll find out after he leaves office and writes the book.
