A Food and Drug Administration panel voted 20-17 that prescription drugs that combine acetaminophen with other painkilling ingredients should be pulled off the market. Acetaminophen is the leading cause of liver failure in the U.S., sending 56,000 people to the emergency room annually, according to the FDA.
The FDA has assembled a group of experts to vote on ways to reduce liver damage associated with acetaminophen, one of the most widely used drugs in the U.S.

I have lost quite a few friends to prescription overdose, so I think this may be a good move...
-
Seems like a good idea. Why do you need "Tylenol" with a narcotic? The liver failure of which this panel speaks, is not caused by suicide attempts, but just getting too much acetaminophen with your heavy strength pain medicine.
For non-prescription pain, take ibuprofen. It works better, and if it's going to cause side effects, ulcers are better than liver failure.

Well I guess the GOP won't cry about it since the most famous person the in entire world just died because of these "legal" drugs. If he hadn't. They'd fight this too!

Well, we don't have to worry about most Americans even being able to get prescription drugs to abuse. You have to be insured first. Most of the young people whom abuse it are suburban white kids who are abusing illegal drugs too.

Dr. House is gonna be pissed.

It seems like overkill, pardon the pun. Why ban it when there are plenty of people who use it properly and it benefits them? I can see lowering the acetaminophen dose in them in order to protect against liver damage, but isn't it up to the parents to watch over and educate their children about drugs when it comes to them overdosing? Why penalize those it helps?

So, when will they release Soma? It was only a matter of time before this pervasively intrusive, Crypto-Fascist, shadow government became too lethargic and bloated with power to continue to veil its intentions. Thank the Ford.
-
Why should the FDA pull a drug that, when used __properly__ has a purpose. It is a prescription drug precisely because it is dangerous to use without medical supervision. Drugs like these should not be completely banned because there are some people who cannot follow a prescription correctly.
-
Hey! Here's an idea! How about people take the time to figure out what they're putting in their bodies and how to use it properly?
But I realize that's completely insane. People can't be expected to be responsible for their actions. No. Instead we should have a government agency take it away because they always know best, right?
-
No one ever overdosed on marijuana, a perfectly acceptable pain reliever. Of course if that were legal, Big Pharma wouldn't be making so much money on all these prescriptions that end up in the wrong hands....
-
What a band of Idiots, Back in the 70's they did not ban Cough Medicine because it had Codiene in it, they just
took out the Codiene~! Pain medications help many
people when used properly. More government bungling. -
These medicines are a great help to people in pain. It's ridiculous to take them away from people who's lives are enriched by them. If we ban everything that people can kill themselves with, we'll eventually be in sitting alone in padded rooms.

Finally the government cares about consumer safety again.
It was not to long ago that they were being lobbied to push drugs with dangerous side effects onto everyone, even people who didn’t need them.
-
Why are the even working on this when cigarettes are still sold to the public...
I think it's a good idea to finally take products that kill people off the shelves, but cigarettes should be treated the same way.
I wish it wasn't taking so long.

People pop Tylenol like candy anyway. You lower the dosage in a tablet and they're just going to take more without doing the math the need to.
That seems more dangerous to me. -
Tylenol has been upseting me for years.
The scare tactics surrounding the ?MAYBE? aspirin causes Reyes syndrome gave the Tylenol people the shoe in to health related offices and facilities.
Tylenol does nothing for pain and fever reduction for multiple family members yet we couldn't get aspirin because 'Tylenol was safe'.
I've been telling people for decades acetaminophin/Tylenol is posionous to the organs it's processed and eliminated through.-

This worries me. Does this mean they will just get rid of vicoden and percocet? I eat these painkillers like candy, and i haven't been able to find a decent alternative. Exercise, fish oil, and meditation only do so much when you're immune system is busy fusing your spine. Does this just fuck everyone over or what?

Rush limbaugh is gonna be really pissed about this one for more than one reason. first of all he is against any gov't regulation at all. and secondly, well.... he's got quite an affinity for painkillers.
