Robber holds up New Jersey gas station with gun and a potato.
Investigators said the man entered the Gulf station in Jersey City near the Holland Tunnel with a gun in one hand and the potato in the other, The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported Tuesday.
The robber obtained money from the clerk and fled the scene in a two-door black vehicle that had been parked at a nearby Burger King, police said. The man, described as 30 to 35 years old with red dreadlocks, was last seen driving toward the tunnel.
Police said they do not know why the man was holding a potato.

I've figured it out. The robber was... Mr. Potato Head (with the attachable red dreadlocks of course).
Can't blame the clerk for getting the description wrong. If I were being held up a 10 inch toy I would have been in absolute hysterics.
