    • Excellent piece Tracy and Mitch. The most appealing segments on current are Vanguard in my opinion. Keep up the outstanding work.

    • Kudos to the Current staff for featuring this. I think that this is a very important issue not just because I am Filipino, but also because of the number of people that have been killed and displaced from their homes. There is not a lot of media coverage on it and the world should be informed about what's going on down there.

The fighting has been ongoing since the late 60's and there are no hopes of an actual ceasefire. Mindanao is a beautiful island rich in natural resources, but the Philippine government should just concede.

There is so much more to talk about but I'm afraid this is already protracted, but again, thanks for sharing this.

You will not know what is going on there regardless unfortunately... I wish I could say more, to that.
What I can say is that the MILF have been tested should we say, and it is widely accepted that it would take a full out war to be able to even consider ousting them. They are not nice people, and the present fear is that they will not be content to stick with the provisions of the peace agreements... they are bad MF's and they know it, I have heard it said that they are better at Vietnamese jungle warfare than the Vietnamese ever where...

Abu Sayyaf are very good at predicting what is going to happen next and/or they have some way of gathering impossible intelligence, I do not know how else to put that in words that I can use... when people show up at their jungle bases they are often either recently destroyed or simply abandoned without trace. It is... disconcerting to say the least.

It is all a huge mess, and the money pumped into it is really a joke, it is like giving someone a penny loan to buy a car. These are incredibly radical groups, and they supress people and have desires to spread and supress more... the way to deal with this is not entirely with the American Tourist Green Barret's (the may have been SEALS but there mannerism was a little off)... water towers and improved roads only happen in these places when someone high up comes along and says... oh well why are we not doing this, and then it gets done, and it is sad, more international AID is needed around the worlds and departments that over see its actual use need to be in place... hearts and minds... we need more international aid, and we need to be employing and teaching the locals what to do to improve there positions... I could ramble on this forever... I will stop now I suppose

Hrmm didn't know all that, since you shared that with me I'd like to share something with you too. Have you ever heard of Hmong? If not they are a group of hill tribe in the mountains of Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. They are being hunted and killed (genocide) by the Laos Communist and North Vietnam Army because they helped the Americans during the Vietnam War.... Yeah, I'm Hmong if you wonder...

Yes, I have heard of the Hmong... I am actually quite familiar with the history of your people. you guys have been ousted from virtually every homeland you have had over the last several centuries and as a result are known as a very violent people... many of you were relocated to the states during the pullout of Vietnam... you most likely live in Southern California or Des Moines as a result.

I don't know if we're "violent" people but yeah, we were relocated due to the pull out of Vietnam... We're all over, Cali, Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin... shoot even Alaska... it's good to know that some people actually know about Hmongs
