Just last week, up to 40 people were killed during a previous drone strike, reportedly with civilian casualties.
The current drone strike took place in a tribal area of Pakistan that has been overrun with Taliban fighters in recent months.
In the last few months, the US has stepped up its drone strikes, with 35 reported sorties that have killed an estimated total of 340 people.
