wow, pay as you go service in the US is either total shit or there are options people must not know about.
Up here in Canada we can get a phone that costs $49.99 to buy (cheapo) and you can get them with free activation. You buy a top up card for between $10-$50 and you dial the code on the card into the phone and you're set. You pay anywhere from 20 to 45 cents a minute depending on which provider you use but so long as you use the phone once every 60 days you're set. Sometimes the top up value only lasts 30-60 days before it expires but if you only buy a $10 card and make 3 or 4 calls a month it's no big deal.
I use a pay as you go service that costs me $45 a month and I get unlimited incoming calls, unlimited after 6pm and all weekend out going calls, unlimited text or mutlimedia messages, caller ID, voice mail, call conferencing and a prime business hours calling cost of 25 cents a minute. I pay $45 a month for all that. I also pay an extra $5 a month for unlimited web browsing.
As a bonus when I signed up for this service they gave me a Motorola Krzr K1M MP3 player phone for $79 and no activation fee.
Sounds like pay as you go in the States is whole lot different than it is here.
Up here it's an awesome deal.
Another thing is that if I don't use the phone for 90 days I get a letter in the mail asking if I still want my number and I can retain it without using it for 24 months at no extra costs.
