I follow the argument, and there IS a certain inescapable logic to it. But in the end, I continue to believe that even if the people he describes as stupid know deep down that they are stupid, one of their primary goals is to somehow show that the smart person with whom they are arguing is actually equally stupid. Getting that smart person sufficiently frustrated to call the stupid person on their stupidity brings the smart person down to a level sufficiently close to the stupidity of the stupid person to allow that stupid person to claim victory.
During the course of a long lifetime, allowing oneself to be so dragged down is inevitable at least on one or two occasions. But seeing the triumph in the stupid person's face or hearing it in their voice is usually enough to cure the smart person of ever wanting to be in that position again. Thus, while the word may be a weapon for the unwise, it is merely a trap for the unwary smart person.

I totally have thought these things , except for one thing . These people lack the social skills to survive in a tribal society like the ones in which humans evolved . They are willfully ignorant and thrive on attention through conflict . I do use the word stupid , with a few flourishes . simpering sociopathic whiner , belligerent blowhard , insecure projection hater , repressed nitwit . I do it in a round about way . Attack someone else that says what they are about to say . IT forces them to find a new script . If you cannot avoid these wretched people . I think it is a mental illness that should be studied and cured immediately .
