I know the concept of religious people, espically those evangelists, they seem really upset if you do not agree with them on their religion.....
And are so defensive when others talk about their religion, and not the way they would expect....
Even when they say they are not defensive, they still are....
"Seeing the light"
"The good word Of Jesus Christ"
"The holy one"
As yes these usual saying of such, would only come from the "better than you" evangelistic, Christian...

This essay is soundly based on good logical thinking. As a citizen of the bible belt I wish I could tie down just about every Christian I've ever met and force them to read this essay again and again as they have forced their beliefs upon me since my youth. Thanks for the good post. I couldn't have said it better.

They have a right to their superstitions. The Constitution gives you the right to believe any dumb ass thing you want.

HAHAHAHAHHA If someone tells you to shut up if you ask honest meaningful questions about their religion, they are hiding their own ignorance. If they are defensive, they don't really know the history of their particular religion. (nor do they care) I run into it often with fundamentalists. I'm a Catholic, and If someone wishes to spar with me, fine- I'm game. I don't get defensive, because I know my faith, I know my history, I know my theology. I'm a Catholic, "loud and proud" which isn't always easy, as anti-catholicism is the last acceptable predjudice in this country. But I feel no need to apologize. But the key is to answer questions with clarity and understanding, taking into account where the individual is in their spiritual journey- with kindness and gentleness as necessary, but telling it like it is when misconceptions are raised. "Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies just because they become fashion." GK Chesterton

Good luck putting this stuff into use in the bible belt. You won't get out another word once they figure out that you are challenging the word of the bible.
-
Actually. you won't be challenging the word of the Bible. You will be challenging their interpretation of the Bible, as in Protestantism, each individual is their own interpreter, according to how they are "led" by the Holy Spirit. I recently wrote an 8 page letter to an ant-catholic organization and challenged them point for point- using the Bible to obliterate their arguments, using the so called "Catholic verses". Unsurprisingly, they really had no response. When you challenge a "Bible Christian" you will have as many interpretations of Scripture as there are "Bible Christians". (Bible Thumpers would be uncharitable) This is due to the fact they have no true source of authority they can turn to. I don't belittle them, but you probably won't make any headway with them....

That's precisely way the bible is not a good source for the alleged "the word of God". It can be interpreted too many ways.
