$22 Million worth of freshly grown burned to the ground...

Image...
-$22 million at my counties tax rate of 7% is $1,540,000 in lost tax revenue-

-They seized 11,000 pot plants worth about $2,000 per plant, or about $22 million total on the street..

"We got more than $20 million of drugs off the streets before they even got there," Smith said.
All the plants were piled into a large pit, and destroyed by fire. It's a scene that drug agents hope will scare the pot farmers away.

Marvin Brown, commander of York County's multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement unit, was also there. He said the key is to scare them out of the state.

"We're probably just gonna push them somewhere else, but then we'll lay on those fields there too. As long as they stay in South Carolina, we'll go where they go," Brown said.
Deputies sat and watched the operation for a full week before moving in Monday and making arrests. They wanted to make sure they could take someone to jail, and not simply pull up the crop.

Drug agents can easily spot marijuana plants from the air because of their distinctive color, and the plots they're grown in, but finding the growers is another story. Smith said rural counties like Chester are easy choices for this kind of crime.
"Our biggest problem is that we are a rural county," he said. "You couldn't go to Charlotte and find the land to do something like this."

The three men arrested running from the woods are Victor Villa, Ulver Hernandez, and Arnulfo Maulcon. All will be charged with trafficking marijuana and could spend 30 years in prison.-

What a waste, of cannabis, of police resources, of jail space, and of tax revenue. You would think by now they would go after something that's actually dangerous, like that serial killer in Affney S. C.

30 years for growing a plant that would grow naturally if man was not around, seems a little hefty

If it was legal it wouldn't be worth 22 million. That markup is based on the illegal distribution system. There is no reason to assume that in a legalized environment marijuana would cost more to produce than say, tobacco, which is about 85 cents for a pack of cigarettes. The rest is advertising, overhead, and taxes.

Well with pot we would not need advertising, that's for sure we don't need taxes either and we can grow our own so the cost is minimal but I really hope these people find something better to do with thier time like chasing criminals like Rapist and Murderer's etc. Maybe even get a life. What a shame to see action's like these.

I'm feeling evil at the moment, so I say we put all the DEA agents into a pit and set them on fire. They are some of the most despicable people alive.

    @ the previous 3 posts

Why is it that so many pot users display this behavior. They seem to literally love the drug. Not like loving baseball or cheeseburgers, but Eros and Agape love.

High times magazine was originally a lampoon of playboy complete with a centerfold of a great big pot plant.

It's extremely disturbing and one of the things that makes me worry about pot legalization. Heavy long term pot use affects people in ways we still do not understand.

Thank god the police have saved the day once again! I think North Korea shot off 7 missles on saturday... don't we have better things to dedicate our resources to?!? WTF

Yeah so we should JAIL THEM until we figure out exactly how it affects people.... WHAT? Take a look at alcohol and nicotine. Jailing people is not the answer for loving a plant no matter how bizzare YOU may find it.

I bet the people who lived downwind had an awesome party. They probably woke up the next day with an empty pantry.
