The sounds of classic arcades

Image...
Arcades were prevalent in the 80s and early 90s but due to economic conditions and the rise of gaming consoles in the home they’ve died a slow death. Some still linger in shopping malls but they’re not what they used to be. The folks at Coin-Op Video Games recorded the audio from their arcade experiences between 1982 and 1988 in a variety of locations from Ithaca, NY, to Key West, FL, and have posted this ambient arcade audio online.

While I love and miss old games I don't know if I would want to hear them without playing the game

Cute idea, but I'm not sure how many people want to pay $20 to listen to someone else playing Burger Time.

Interesting for nostalgia, but that's about it. I can't see myself cruising around listening to this stuff.

google Midway Park, outside of Jamestown NY (I believe in maple springs) and you will see a genuine amusement park of old- the arcade games there date back to the 1950's- they are the same games they had there 30 years ago. I especially like the "Fortune Teller" a mannequin of a fortune teller that gives you your fortune for 50 cents or so.....I'll never get too old to go to Midway!!

it was all recorded on a handheld tape recorder and the tapes sat around for 20 years before being "digitized", then this asshole charges you $15 dollars or $25 internationally... can you even hear anything? is it just kids screaming and faint beeps and whistles? I hereby offer my services to record your favorite arcade games' sounds and I will only charge you for the blank cd I put it on and maybe the first class stamp; so like $1.75 probably even cheaper. Do it!

I don't want to buy this, but I really appreciate the collective effort of the persons who went about finding these awesome tunes.

The only people i can really see buying this are music producers who want to sample the effects for tunes.

Even then its $25 for 192 mp3's. Meh.
