It had to happen, Twitter, that' s the social networking, micro-blogging meaning of Twitter, not the noise that birds make, will be added to the new Collins dictionary later this year.

Not only that "Twitterati" will be entered, as will "Twitterverse", but fortunately other annoying uses of Twitter words with "Tw" at the beginning of them, such as "Tweeple", "Tweetup", or "Twitterature" won't be added.

Have they added Facebook as a verb yet? Such as:

Man, that photo's awesome, I'm so Facebooking it later.

or: Yeah, I Facebooked her, not what I expected.

Why oh why must we perpetuate this kind of crap by making it, "official?" It's bad enough that people already say things like, "google it on youtube," (True story) but now we're going to tell them they're RIGHT!?

The thing about twitter is that it'll be dead in a year.

Anyone remember when Livejournal was famous?

    Then Myspace?

    Then Facebook...

    Now Twitter.

It's a common transition as the world looks for the new (arguably) interesting way to communicate and connect with folks they may never meet in person due to various limitations.

I suspect the next big one will be something involving video chat. A Hybrid of Youtube and a more streamlined user friendly Facebook.

I realize facebook is easy to use already but there is so much superfluous junk on it that it makes me gag a bit as a coder.

Hopefully the next step will be for the United Nations to recognise #followfriday as an international day of celebration and unity and stuff.

And we'll all get the day off work.

There must be money exchanging hands. Linguists wouldn't be keen to officially incorporate brand names into the English language without some added incentive. Or perhaps the secret to the dictionary industry is to add as many words as possible in order to entice people to buy the latest edition.
