It's so easy to forget how much labor, travel, waste, etc is put into something like an apple. Thanks for putting things into perspective for me :)

well, how do you eat locally when you live in a place that has freezing winters?? it's a great idea, but it's hard in some places

My buddy is a locavore - he doesn't really care about organic or vegetarian...as long as its being grown or raised within 50miles of his house...pretty rad

this was very informative...we all really need to think deeper about what we put into our bodies and the environment around us! also it helps are local economy and that is something every community wants!

Planting your own stuff is a lot of work. A lot... my parents did it for a long time out of hobby. Wish I could do that.
Some of the large grocery stores are actually advertising "Local" though. "We support our local farmers!" kinda stuff. Good to see... especally since the oranges were still the same price.

Eating local is sustainable in so many ways- fresher food, healthier bodies, less environmental pollution! Check out this great site to locate near-by farmers markets and farms you can explore: http://www.localharvest.org/

i found localharvest.org through this article and it's been tremendously helpful. now i have no excuse to not know what is local, in season, good for farmers and the world, and convenient.
