Pope claims greed has 'wreaked havoc' on the global economy, wants UN 'with teeth'
The strengthened international body should work "to bring about integral and timely disarmament, food security and peace, to guarantee the protection of the environment and to regulate migration," Benedict said.
The letter, addressed to all Catholics "and people of goodwill", reminds them of their moral duties in financial dealings.
"Profit is useful if it serves as a means toward an end," he wrote.
"Once profit becomes the exclusive goal, if it is produced by improper means and without the common good as its ultimate end, it risks destroying wealth and creating poverty."
He warned that globalisation, properly managed, could "open up the unprecedented possibility of large-scale redistribution of wealth on a world-wide scale".
But badly directed, it could "lead to an increase in poverty and inequality, and could even trigger a global crisis".

Ridiculous? How so? So, greed HASN"T wreaked havoc on the global economy? What about Ivan Boesky? (Oops- sorry- you were just a speck in God's eye then...)What about Bernie Madoff? Benedict XVI is the 264th sucessor of St. Peter. Truth hurts, and in your case, it seems- "ignorance is bliss". Who do you think you are, anyhow? Gordon Gekko?

He sure as hell did get that right and maybe someone will heed him. The greed started with Dumb Ya and his crew and has been growing ever since and the UN definitely needs to do something besides warn countries, Israhell being a good example of a nation of terrorist being out of control while the UN admits it but does nothing to help stop or prosecute them and put an end to the Stealing of Land, Murder, Torture, Genocide and just plain GREED.
-
I wonder if perhaps greed is not so much the problem as greed for the wrong things. Yes, I know that is kind of obvious in the sense that it is greed for material things that seems to be at the root of many of the disfunctions in the the world (not just the U.S.).
But I am not completely convinced that greed can be eradicated or even greatly reduced -- I am afraid that it may be an unavoidable part of human nature...at least for most humans.
Perhaps that greed could instead be redirected? Just think what might have happened if we could have convinced Warren Buffet to be greedy for world peace instead of money when he was 6 years old...
-
The Gold Chair the pope sits on could feed thousands of people...
There's your greedy thief bastard....
-
That would be a good idea if such things were possible. Hindsight is 20 20 and Warren Buffet is Warren Buffet.
Greed is greed and my thought is a reinforcement of the bible's text that a wealthy man has as much chance of getting to heaven as a camel walking through the eye of a needle. If that was taught as a golden rule not so much as a biblical text at an early age just maybe people would understand.-

Pope quote => "moral duties in financial dealings". I has to ask this question uhm IS THAT IN THE BIBLE? Did any Bible writers instruct us to change money from being EVIL by working together in harmony?
WHAT DID JESUS SAY or doesn't that matter anymore?
No more Jesus just the Pope every week eh?
Holding a Jesus doll on a stick......
Looks like a slinky puppet.

Can the WORLD stand a United Nations with teeth?! Stay tuned. Maybe Popey has a good idea. Can the WORLD stand a Pope making comments about teeth?! If we find out it will be here on CURRENT.
Now that Michael Jackson is gone the Pope owns the field and his dedicated bishops in far flung archdioceses have Michael's children. Personally I think they got a lot less molested with Jackson.
What if a UNITED NATIONS with teeth took his land and gave it to the INDIANS?

We are to ignore a library FULL of 'priceless' art which can be sold,.. making a genuine effort ...
I say this because if this "pope' was serious about helping the people ; We might see a 'garage sale' and use the monies to go directly to address third world debt... need to invest in the future... unless the organization is simply going to continue to 'pass the hot potato' maintaining predatory practices of profit from 'helping organizations' like the UN..to much 'help' not enough cures..The United Nations makes more money maintaining the status quot in impoverished countries ... while waiting for 2012 lol?; 'grease-sing the 'treadmill instead of trying to get people out of the 'pit of the wage slave realities.'
This statement of the pope is purely a symbolic gesture, as usual.
I am glad that I am not the only one to see the man in golden robes ,red shoes and all the treasures of antiquity asking others to do what he and a group of similar organizations can do for all they claim to care... 2 billion people in one organization?
Religions are still wearing the 'old costume.'
The financial clout of SEVERAL nations, within one organization....; Buddy Jesus . again; is like meatloaf on Wednesday. No real change... after a 'Jubilee' ...?
yeaaaahhh (said as Winnie Da Po's friend E'ore) We just need to raise our tithes when we can... they just need help... (never a cure?)

The last time the prostitute rode on the back of the Beast was during the time of Constantine, when he declared Rome to be a Christian Empire and it was travesty. It was repeated with the Church of England. The establishment of a national religion is not good in general. I am not saying that religion should be kept out of government, just that they shouldn't enforce a national religion nor should one rule over the other.
The time is coming for the harlot to ride again. Only this time, she will be a plethora of world beliefs, as many as a prostitute has lovers. The unifying theme of all these beliefs will be tolerance and therefore, no single belief system will be tolerated to be the right one, thereby making it a whore of a belief system.

I guess when someone said the world is not fair and that seems to be the way it is, it is a shame but the world is not fair and some people recieve more than others, that seems to be the way it is, and there will be the eagles and doves and that is life, isn't it? We can write or blog all we want but we won't change the world, we can try and we can have good intentions but the world is not fair!

I'd like the Pope's educated opinion on this info => http://tinyurl.com/EndTimesScienceofBabyKilling

Me neither; but there are 2 billion people who do, and they should hear a second opinion once in a while... and, just maybe, someone out here showing some brains really work... without needing a staff with Jesus hanging from it looking like a priest in Pharoah's court.

Greed is not bad when it's regulated by the markets. It's only when government intervenes that all hell breaks out.

The Pope apparently owns many markets to be able to tell the others how to run theirs... so if the government is interfering with us then the POPE MUST BE INTERFERING WITH THEM. (Puppet strings in the night, exchanging glances?)
IT IS THE FEARED POPE OVERLAY <> ROME HAS NOW ASSUMED TOTAL CONTROL OF THE WORLD

He should know , the system he comes from is so entrenched in it , you see how he projects it outward from his fancy gold chair ? He cannot see it in himself .
-
I recall that a long time ago the breath of God got lots of stuff done without needing a Pope sitting on gold chairs with gold thread in his gold robe under a bejewelled helmet. Let's see. The breath (or spirit) went to & fro over the earth, that was done without a Pope. Then God blew air (and life) into Adam and Adam then BECAME A SOUL (not one inside him).
A weak people needs a Pope... but if it helped them use less Prozac, Xanax, Zoloft and Wellbutrin I guess it would be better having a Pope, except last time I looked the most people on the planet taking psychoactive drugs to feel better inside happens to be THE POPE'S CHRISTIANS.
That can't be right. Well, does God use the Pope in any real super special ways today or does he just keep the chair warm? Is the Rapture going to come soon or what? Has the Pope given any great signs or portents that instill confidence in him AS GOD'S REPRESENTATIVE ON EARTH, anything recently to show the Pope stands tall among men stuffed to the gills with God's Blessing?
If His Excellency the Pope is the man above men he's supposed to be, let's see some meat slapped across the table, perhaps something of this Order => http://www.newpath4.com/betrayedbymodernscience_crashingflyingcarsthroughthespac... otherwise he sits on a false throne.
