Will Google Wave Kill Facebook and Twitter?

Image...
Google Wave is like a mosaic of Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube, Google maps, Instant Messaging and Gmail. What’s really cool about this is that any participant on your wave can reply anywhere on the content and edit it as well.

Do you think this will be the end of all other social networking sites?

I'm pretty excited about this. You can basically do everything that you do even in facebook such as event invites, comments, links to videos, websites, IM, etc.

    Pretty amazing!

I'd try. I'm totally getting tired of facebook.

This has a lot of potential but like most things once it gets really popular and all the corporations jump on the band wagon it will go down hill. Greed ruins a lot of good sites.

I would love for twitter to go the way of friendster, however I doubt it would effectively 'kill' facebook. That said, seeing how long Google kept gmail in beta, one could reasonably assume that this will remain in said form for the next four to five years.

I watched the hour or so long video and I signed up to be a tester. I feel like it could go either way. I doubt Twitter needs to worry though.

It'll be interesting to see how this works out, but I think it's a bit too early for us to jump to conclusions about it "killing off" facebook or twitter. Even if it were to achieve such an insane level of success, I don't think the other social networking sites would go down without a fight.

well they do likely have aq better economic model. google does seem to be becomming the new microsoft/borg though. I find the whole "my crappy version of your software will win because I'm bigger than you" thing quite disturbing.

Social networking sites won't disappear, but it will start a trend in new types of web development, so look for new feature rich applications. Going Open Source is a smart move, and making it developer friendly even better.

Wave will integrate with Facebook and Twitter, not replace them.

Why are we always looking for Google to kill something. Has there been any actual Google related fatalities -and looking up ways to off your spouse doesn't count?

Google Wave is a new tool for communication and collaboration on the web, coming later this year. Watch the demo video below, sign up for updates and learn more about how to develop with Google Wave.

WTF is up with everyone hating on Twitter? Don't use it if you hate it so much... haven't you heard that it is doing amazing things like helping the oppressed Chinese people get much needed information out to the rest of the world? and that it helps people stay in contact when their family or friends is in a place that just had a catastrophe? yes a lot of random BS goes on there too, but that is life

.... that said, I am still checking out Google Wave.

Tawnybabe, I had a look to the wave explainer video.
My opinion it is not targeting facebook, not at all Twitter.
It is a collaborative tool that may compete with Skype messages for business first. The instant multi party document changing you can try today on a Goggle website (register igoogle) it' s working. A powerful tool developed by the Map inventor, and open system.

i will use it, get my brain together for multi waves to handle and a walk at the beach to relax from over-information. thanks for post

Yes please... though I do like facebook because of it's college only origins, and it's not having become the porn site that myspace became... but anyway, PLEASE KILL TWITTER!!!
