Pandora Capping Free Radio at 40 Hours per month

Image...
In order to continue streaming after reaching the 40 hour limit, you'll have to pay $0.99, which will get you through until the end of the month. With companies like Last.fm, and its lesser known alternatives out there, is it really worth it?

LAME. Y'all should try playlist.com. Pandora needs to understand people are NOT going to pay for streaming music...

What starts as a great idea turns into a way for someome to try to get even more cash out of it. People will not pay but will instead go else. I know I will.

According to Pandora's Tim Westergren, only 10% of users listen to more than 40 hours per month. This is becoming the new internet business model: free service for 90% of users and a small charge for those who want premium content. Other online services have already moved in this direction (WSJ, Flickr, MegaVideo) and I understand it and prefer it over not having the service at all. TANSTAAFL.

Yeah I agree. I have been a Pandora user for years. I don't like this at all.

Noooo. I love Pandora (for the most part)! But, everything's a business... at least its not .99 per song or anything.

    Osh, nothing is free.

I have pandora going all day, but an extra .99 will not be a reason for me to stop listening.

I'm going to have to remember to pause it when I leave my room.. it's that simple!

Are you kidding me? You guys are bitching about being limited to 40hrs a month?

Last.fm recently decided that nobody outside the UK or United States could listen to their radio offerings AT ALL without paying their recently increased membership rates.

sorry, 40hrs a month is still pretty bloody awesome.

I like it because it helps me discover new artists that I can grab on zune (with a wma to mp3 converter the zune service is amazingly versatile).

I like it and I still do.

I caved - signed up for Pandora One. Love Pandora, listen to it at work. Would've maxed out that 40 hours in 1 week! :(
