Massachusetts sues US over gay marriage

Image...
Massachusetts filed a lawsuit against the United States over defense of marriage act (DOMA) which defines a marriage as between a man and a woman. "The federal Defense of Marriage Act interferes with the right of Massachusetts to define and regulate marriage as it sees fit, Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said."

Massachusetts was the first state in the country to legalize marriage equality. 16,000 same-sex couples have wedded in Massachusetts.

This is the second lawsuit challenging DOMA originating from Massachusetts. GLAAD filed a challenge based on the 14th Amendment earlier this year.

All this energy to prevent same-sex marriage could have been applied to finding a renewable energy source, fixing the national debt, and ending poverty.

Maybe all that fundamentalist hot air could be used as a renewable energy source...
