I'm posting this video of Al Gore speaking recently at Oxford because he mentions soil carbon and its importance in mitigating climate change. Unfortunately, the video cut off at about 6 minutes and I was hoping to hear more. It is good to hear him speak of this because I too believe that it is one of the best and most natural and effective ways of sequestering carbon while also mitigating global warming and enriching soil naturally which also has great agroeconomic benefits. Deforestation is one of the most important areas in discussing climate change/ global warming mitigation. Yet, it along with emissions from agriculture were not given the priority in the Waxman-Markey Bill that they should have had.
As far as the climate bill is concerned, Mr. Gore states this is a step in the right direction but did also admit the bill had many flaws. As I stated previously, I am not working to derail this bill but to ask the Senate to make it much stronger since this may well be the only chance we will have to get this right before the more severe effects of climate change take hold. But at this stage I think it needs much work.

I may not agree with him about cap and trade as presented in this bill and would still rather see a revenue neutral carbon tax included, but I do know he and I and many others are on the same page as far as what we know the goal must be to maintain the climate balance of our planet.
