Is There a Link Between Climate Change and Poverty?

Image...
Oxfam International released an interesting report yesterday called, “Suffering the Science: Climate Change, People and Poverty”. The crutch of the report is to demonstrate how the effects of climate change are impacting people in poor communities much harder then in developed regions. Issues that are linked to poverty and development include access to food and water as well as health and security. The report warns, “without immediate action 50 years of development gains in poor countries will be permanently lost.”

Which goes to show that a lot of people are in denial or are not prepared to make the necessary sacrifices and changes in their lifestyles to ensure the survival of their children and future generations, because they are totally selfish.

climate change and poverty are two different things. Of course, climate change is caused by human activity, but it doesn't closely related to poverty.

sure. if the climate wipes out entire areas or villages, cities, towns, there's going to be lots of poverty.

Didn't read the article, but I don't really need to. The logic is obvious in the title. Of course poverty will increase - farmers will see their crops decreasing due to changes in growing periods. Many of the world's poor must farm their own food to eat and/or sell. Crop size decrease means less food on the table or less money to put food on the table. Equals more poverty and more poverty related death.
