The open source VLC Media Player finally reached version 1.0 on Tuesday. The new version, codenamed Goldeneye, represents over a decade of development.     It ia very good media player, VLC plays everything. Too bad many people dont even know about it

    When I was on Windows, VLC was my 'fall back'. Now that I'm on Ubuntu, VLC is my 'go to'. It's really quite awesome. It doesn't fail.

    And with it you can stream right from your desktop to the Internet like a radio or TV. Could be one more step past twitter to desktop broadcasting.
