Korean states Japan inferior due to language simplicity. Racism?

A South Korean teacher explains why no Koreans have won a Nobel prize for literature. His statement of “fact”: Korean is superior to all other languages. Japan, a culturally inferior nation, has won two Nobel prizes for literature because Japanese is a crude language that is so simple to translate into English. Korean, on the other hand, is harder to translate into other languages because it is so damn exquisite and beautiful.

---

Maybe Koreans just haven't written anything decent enough. Don't gotta go callin' people inferior just cuz you haven't won anything and are clearly jealous.

    Thank you Nettle!

Very interesting - on one hand I find the arrogance of the South Korean quite charming, yet to call a whole nation of people inferior is just over the top.

I enjoyed the video though, in many ways it was like any lecture in an American University.

The guy is definitely arrogant, but that doesn't mean there isn't any veracity to his claim. Hard to assess unless you're fluent in both Japanese and Korean, and perhaps English as well.

I also don't see how he's being racist. He's talking about culture and linguistics, not race.

I don't believe he is arrogant and he a professor probably traveled and his opinion of language just like you stated yourself in linguistic-wise and he mentions himself that he is an english teacher meaning he probabaly know alot. The detail he voice is all true every bit he said it all fact go get to a library and see if his claims are true.
Both Asian countries are the leaders of technology both very westernized which we influence each other. Or can i say competitors maybe..... And yeah they did win two noble prizes in literature but doesn't really mean much because the way they give the noble prize is based on story not grammar which japanese produces awesome novel and stories.
Also, while i was in japan even the people there said that some literal translations can't be made because of the characters which they cant pronounce "h" because it will sound like a "th" instead. Korean isn't harder to translate because korean is one of the easiest languages to learn but when you put it into context it hard to understand
Anyway I am not defending him because I am a Korean-American but the fact that the Korean language is super versatile because just like how he explained the rain metaphor about how a river sounds and how it flows that the professor stated is unlike english you can describe it in more than just a word but like a sound because the korean language one of the more descriptive language it varies in description.
Also, it not that Korea is jealous is just that because both Korean and Japanese language is derived from the old Chinese and the japanese take words from the korean language also just like the word "promise" even the pronunciation are similar and even the word "library" because when i watch anime and stuff i catch these korean words in the japanese language...
And maybe he went over the top saying the korean language is better but doesn't all country speak pride for their own country like how americans are the best when you are an american citizen and how japanese people think they are the best when your a japanese citizen i believe it just pride that he is talking about in this sense.
The last point is older generation Korean have a huge hatred toward the japanese because of the World War or what not....

sorry for the long explanation but i just don't like people misunderstanding what they were trying to say and i believe the person who translated the lecture weren't fully correct! because in translation there are always mistake unless you know that language itself.....
some people take things to literal seriously.....

I just can't look past the word inferior. He says that japan is an inferior country. I could maybe understand if he said that the japanese language was inferior to the korean language but the whole country? wow! If that's not racist then don't show me what racist is. Check it out at the 1:20 mark in the video.
