In this country, even though Obama’s father hailed from Kenya, the president is considered “from the soil,” a man with an African bloodline, who is now returning home as leader of the free world.
But even as Ghana waits expectantly, many here are wondering why Obama chose this country for his first visit to sub-Saharan Africa
“Part of the reason is because Ghana has now undergone a couple of successful elections in which power was transferred peacefully, even a very close election,” Obama said in an interview last week with reporters for the news website allAfrica.com.
“Countries that are governed well, that are stable, where the leadership recognizes that they are accountable to the people and that institutions are stronger than any one person have a track record of producing results for the people. And we want to highlight that," said Obama.
Asked if he would like to see a lot more countries like Ghana in Africa, the president replied, “Absolutely.”

Should be an interesting state visit. We had a story earlier this week about the White House's attempt to stir up some participation from the locals - asking them to SMS Obama questions they had for him.

Can we agree to abolish the word "ga-ga" in light of the atrocities caused by a certain "'music' artist," unfortunately at the word's expense?

"From the soil,” a man with an African bloodline, hence the Obama mania in Ghana.
Clothes, songs, books etc dedicated to the man and plus maybe the history the two countries has got is playing a role? Hence Ghana go gaga.

Who was it that had the hit song years ago- "Radio Ga-ga" They love him because he is one of them- he has been mistakenly described by the talking heads on TV as "African American", when he is actually "Muslim American". Then again, this shows that there are also brainwashed people halfway around the world......who know nothing of his character.....

I see no evidence of his being a Muslim, either. BUT he had admitted it to George Stephanopoulos in an interview on his show.....and George, naturally, had to say, "you mean your "CHRISTIAN" faith....this was, of course, before he had become elected. He also mentions it in his book "Screams of My Father" (or was it "Dreams of My Father"?)

Ghana has a lot of oil, and yes the U.S. wants (has) access to it.
The hope in Ghana is that they can negotiate with "Obama" (Cheveron) to avoid having another Niger Delta horror develop and that they can actually benefit from the process.
Ghana is also being strongly considered for the U.S's military bases for AFRICOM which is still in Germany.
Ghana publishes newspapers online that report different aspects than U.S. "journalism".pax
