Help save Dogs and Cats from cruel and unnecessary deaths in South Korea! Action day is July 14th!
Let me assure you the eating of dog meat isn't based on any deeply rooted Korean tradition. Koreans have only eaten dogs when poverty has been widespread, as was the case during World War II. Even in those hard times, dogs were treated as companion animals.
Now, however -- with the unspoken blessing of the government, greedy, unscrupulous dog traders in South Korea propagate the myth that canine meat increases male sexual prowess and general health. This illegal industry has organized itself well. It bribes government officials and police, hires thugs to intimidate animal welfare campaigners, and persuades newspapers to extol the "virtues" of dog meat.
Although the vast majority of Koreans don't eat dog meat, official figures indicate there are at least 6,484 stores nationwide dealing in this horrific trade.
two million South Korean dogs are electrocuted, strangled, or bludgeoned to death each year. Then they're boiled, skinned, browned by a torch, chopped up and eaten. All of this cruelty and suffering is enough to make you sick.
Where do the dogs come from?
Most are homeless dogs, captured by butchers and sold in open markets.
The tragic reality is that authorities are giving the dog meat trade their silent blessing by turning a blind eye to this outrageous bloodbath even though Korean law forbids the sale and consumption of dog meat. The country's Animal Protection Law, which was passed in 1991 considers dogs to be "domestic pets."
"It's inconceivable to me that a being we consider 'man's best friend' could be so brutally killed, skinned, and butchered." --Elliot M. Katz, DVM
"I asked about the eating of dogs and was told over an over that it didn't happen anymore. You can imagine my shock and horror upon getting lost in one of the huge markets in downtown Taegu. I looked down and saw the head of a dog with its legs stuffed in its mouth. I saw limbs that were skinned. Everywhere I turned there were dogs in cages. The smell was overwhelming. That market, that sweltering hot August day, was what I envisioned hell to be like." –An American teacher in South Korea."
The fate of the innocent rests in your hands! Please take action on July 14th by participating in a demonstration, demonstrating outside the South Korean embassy, and writing letters and signing petitions against this cruel practice!

Dogs can commonly be seen in Korean markets being killed (hopefully) by hammer blows to the head before being skinned. Live skinning is often preferred since this helps to preserve the pelt which can then be sold. Sometimes the dog is electrocuted instead, with electrodes fixed to the tongue or inserted in the anus. Yet another favourite method is slow strangulation by hanging. The flesh is then singed by a blowtorch to improve its appearance. On some occasions, the animal remains alive throughout, eventually dying from shock. This is all performed in full view of other dogs crammed in cages awaiting the same fate. Difficult to believe? It gets worse.
THIS CRUELTY IS COMPLETELY INTENTIONAL!
The Koreans actually believe that the adrenaline released into the dogs' bloodstreams by their sheer terror and agony will increase the sexual potency of the consumer.

It's true that Asians eat cats and dogs, but they don't have to subject them to such horrible living conditions. I always thought our treatment of chickens was bad, but compared to what I saw from that documentary Laura Ling did about China, our food has it nice.
Here's to happy food.

if you love animals, you will help them any way you can.
i know I love animals and I don't believe it is anyone's right to torture them before killing them, or skin them or boil them alive!

Korean animal abuse is no worse than what happens in Western animal farms. We have to stop it here rather than focusing the opposition on another country to make us feel better about ourselves. While it needs to be stopped everywhere, no one is going to listen to a request to stop cruelty from people doing the same exact thing.
Go vegan. Otherwise, it's hypocritical to be bashing Korea for it's treatment of cats and dogs when we do things just as foul to chickens, pigs, turkeys, cows, ducks, geese, mink, foxes, monkeys, rats, and so on.

i don't think we should only focus on one thing. dogs and cats are tortured to death, skinned alive often, in some Asian countries.
over here other kinds of animals are killed "humanely"
i already am vegan. but i am saying we can't just ignore these animals because they are in another country, anymore than we can ignore human rights abuses even if they are in another country. sure there is poverty in this country, but we have to do what we can to help our fellow beings.

also did anybody notice that it's ILLEGAL in South Korea to kill these dogs and cats?
the people doing the killing are breaking the law, but they are getting away with it b/c the Korean government isn't enforcing the law.
even for the sake of justice, these people shouldn't be doing this!
