Lawmakers are free to use House speeches “to express their sympathy or their praise any time that they wish,” said Pelosi, D-Calif. “I don’t think it’s necessary for us to have a resolution.”
A resolution sponsored by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, cites some of the singer’s charitable acts and proclaims him an American legend, musical icon and world humanitarian.

Michael Jackson didn't ask for this attention. People genuinely love him and saw the good he tried to bring out in everyone. He didn't deserve to be disrespected by Pete King. Pete has no proof of MJ being a pedophile, neither does anyone else. Everyone is basing their opinions on "word on the street" knowledge. The first case was thrown out because of a lack of evidence and the second case was "Not Guilty". Please study the cases before commenting on them.

Michael Jackson was a great Human and a great American. He impacted many of the social forces: genius, innovation, but especially racism. Michael Jackson was not perfect. He made mistakes as many of us do. However, if there was no Michael Jackson, there would be no Barack Obama. To many, that is another reason to hate or hate on Jackson, but to me, its about human progress. Recollecting that music, the music industry, video, and fashion before MJ, its was neither diverse nor inviting. MJ was a member of the human family. People across the globe invited MJ into their homes which allowed for the exportation of a different view of African Americans, and in turn, Americans. MJ's humanitarian efforts are unmatched. The Resolution is appropriate and should be upheld. Pelosi is wrong.
What many of you are referring to is the allegation that he molested children. I will list me singular issue: if my child was "molested" or touched inappropriately by ANYONE, there is no amount of money that would prevent me from allowing my child to testify against the molester. I believe, more than ever, that the parents took advantage of MJ. Very unfortunate. (Would any of you accept money (basically, hush money) as payment for your child's silence? I'm curious.

I don't believe the hype that says that MJ was a pedophile. I come from a different culture where children jump in bed with adults all the time, and its not sexual. Usually they want someone to hug them and soothe their fears of the dark or tell them stories until they fall asleep. It innocent and benign.
The media whips up a firestorm of controversy because that is what sells, it makes them profits.
If Michael was guilty, they why did he never want to live at Neverland again? If he was pedophile, he would have immediately set his sights on his next victim. Pedophiles can't help themselves, they have to keep on doing what they do. MJ was so devastated by the false accusations that he couldn't bear to be reminded of how the media ripped his heart out at Neverland. He never went back to Neverland.
I am so glad that the memorial that was televised from Los Angeles painted a different portrait of MJ that wasn't exploiting the firestorm of controversy. They portrayed him as Sentwali said, a great human being.
I love you Michael, you will be sorely missed.

I don't necessarily think MJ should not have been honored, but given our current economic situation, I think that it should have been delayed for when we actually have the funds. It should have been delayed especially since his memorial was no ordinary memorial. Of course, I'm confident that the public who adore MJ would not approve of this alternative though...

No racism in this decision. It's her right to choose so, and I think it's a quite reasonable choice.

Sounds like Mikey was into some heavy self medication legal and illegal, not a very good role model for anyone, especially children, Pelosi was right on this one, even though I think Pelosi is a turn coat who is in bed with Dumb Ya and the Repelicans. Jackson made good music and was a great entertainer but so was Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and many more but they did not OD on every pill known to man. Maybe Jackson's drug addiction and abuse should be kept a little silent when it comes to the children of the world. Whay make a hearo of a druggie? This is wrong.

In terms of MJs personal life, yeah he had some demons. He also had a terrible childhood (or lack there of) and couldnt even take a walk to the grocery store without being attacked by fans. We cant judge him because as non-celebrities (and even if we were celebrities) we will never know what its like. As terms of the pedofelia stuff, unless you were there, you dont know what happened. Its all speculation; one guy came out already and said MJ didnt touch him.
In terms of his music. MJ was, and still is, the shit. Come on now, if you dont like at least one MJ song, then you have a problem.
I say all this to get to this point. MJ was an icon like none other, and he had sooo many fans and followers that congress doesnt need to pass a resolution on him. Hes an icon with or without government approval. They should spend their time on more useful things.

I don't think this was a bad call at all. The resolution just seems somewhat superfluous. You don't need a resolution to be considered influential.
-
After all MJ has done, I think its only appropriate to give him a resolution.
We love you MJ.

Two weeks ago you couldn't find five African Americans in any room in the States that would admit to supporting/liking/or simply not capping on him...So now a person who thinks the 1.5 million dollar gathering of all the people who watched Jackson kill himself for the past 20 years was sufficient is a bigot? Please..Where was the African American community when Nina Simone died..Y'all done lost your minds.. At best MJ is a cautionary tale..Humanitarian? He was spending money hand over fist on crap..Think of the impact he could have had..America is witnessing guilt from the fact that everyone watched this dude self destruct. Now all those people are using him so that people will read their blog cause they know the "real" MJ that they read about and saw on youtube and MTV but never met.

if it bleeds, it reads. kudos to all of you happily supporting the media's exploitation of this man and his family. bravo. RIP, if possible.
