What does it mean when your dog licks your arm? Does he like the salt on your skin or is he secretly contemplating something more sinister? I tend to believe the latter.

    • Hey everyone. Thanks for letting us know how you feel — Current.com is an open forum for people to express their perspectives, even when you’re frustrated by how something has gone.

In any VCAM campaign on Current, the sponsor — Microsoft in this case — has full authority to make the selections they want. Current makes recommendations, but ultimately it’s their choice.

In this case, we recognize that there was a wide variety of production levels among the selections, but we see this as an expression of the diversity of experience our VCAM community brings, and the willingness of this sponsor to choose videos they liked, regardless of the level of polish.

Also, every sponsor is different. Each campaign has a different ‘selection committee.’ On the next campaign, your unique style of storytelling, humor, and filmmaking may be exactly what the sponsor is looking for. We hope you continue making the best VCAMs that you can.

    • Judges, can you at least explain why? I'd like to know how this or "Hindsight" could honestly beat my movie "Paranoia Park", or "The Zone", or "Memories". I know I sound like a whiner and a sore loser, but COME ON!!! Who made the final decisions? I really think we got cheated. The description of the contest said something to the effect of "anything GOOD under 100 seconds", and I remember something about filmmaking skill factoring in...

      Please explain yourselves.

BoshStudios seconds this opinion. This is just bull. We worked 10 days on a project that took a lot of time, money, and effort. We worked our hardest to make a FILM that looked professional and to be beaten by something like this is just unfair. I want an explanation. Honestly if I knew all I had to do was use some junky FX and do a crappy sound overlay. Thats what I would have done.

It's just not fair or right. This person doesn't deserve the money/popularity they will get. I can't stress enough how I feel. All the videos that were "most discussed/viewed" weren't even picked!! I don't know if this is because Microsoft made the final decision of the winners. Maybe Current feels the same way about the winners. But couldn't you help persuade the judges at all?

So please, Dan or someone help us understand this mess. Do you think this person deserves $2,500 for this? Even so what would they do with it? We were planning on spending money on jump starting our film making careers by buying a new camera. God...it's just wrong. Thanks for letting me rant and reading this.

      Get back to me.

In response to andynotjamesbond: I don't know. If another contest means new judges, I don't see any problem with entering again. Looking at the AXE contest, it seems like they chose very good vids, so there's hope.

to andynotjamesbond: I don't think I would want to participate in the next VCAM, even if Microsoft chose the winner. I mean, Current must have allowed complete morons from Microsoft to be judges, because there's no way this or "Hindsight" should have won. I feel like I got slapped in the face by the judges who are laughing saying, "haha, your film was better, but we let a worse film win because we can."

Nate, well i didn't see u making a comment like

"oh cute dog, but there is no story" comment on this one
before the contest was over & influence.
      :-P

I agree there were many better than this but i think the cuteness of the dog overpowered the judges to vote for this. judges are probably pet owners. the story is ok in its own way.

Maybe its personal preference, these got picked does not mean others were bad it just means in the perception of these group of judges, these were good for them for reasons beyond our control.
