A lot of these cats will end up some place like the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana. Also, even though a state may not have a law directly about owning an exotic cat, doesn't mean people can just get one. I have witnessed many accounts of people obtaining cats just to have them taken away by conservation officers.

Oh, those poor cats. They must be so miserable. I love wild cats, but what on earth would make you think keeping one as a pet would be a good idea!?

It is a very sad situation for the cats and just amazing that over half of the United States still allows this to happen!

It makes me wonder what people are thinking!?
I mean, yes, the cat-lover part of me sees a picture of a lion and goes, oh it's so cute I want to hug it! But the rest of me knows, um, it's a predatory wild animal, not a pet.
And they look so miserable in some of those tiny cages. My housecats would need more room than some of those had! (Granted, my landlord does refer to one of mine as half a lion...but he's still not THAT big.)

I live in Central Fla. I was sitting at a redlight in the middle of downtown Lakeland a few weeks back when I looked to my left and was stunned.
Sitting in the back of a Ford 750 dually in a cage was a real life Bengle Tiger. He was freaking MASSIVE. And he was utterly miserable.
It was about 95 degrees with 90% humidity.
Plus we were sitting in the middle of traffic on a 8 lane major highway so it was WAY hotter.
pissed me off. - 7 months ago

Florida is one of the worst states for this kind of abuse, these cats are often "exhibited" by people often claiming to be conserving the species by breeding them. They use the cubs for photo opportunities, these cats are removed from their mothers and often drugged to be easier to "work" with, once they grow to large to be used legally (45lbs) they are discarded.
