The American Academy of Environmental Medicine says: "Genetically Modified foods have not been properly tested and pose a serious health risk.” Recently the AAEM called on "Physicians to educate their patients, the medical community, and the public to avoid genetically modified foods." They called for a moratorium on GM foods, long-term independent studies, and labeling. The AAEM said animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food," include infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system.”-

This is so scary! Thank you for posting it! Maybe I missed it: Are there regulations that food must be labelled Genetically Modified? How will I know? The article states, "People can stay away from anything with soy or corn derivatives, cottonseed and canola oil, and sugar from GM sugar beets-unless it says organic or 'non-GMO.'" It's beginning to be scary to eat anything but raw vegetables, and how do i know they aren't genetically modified too? It's so disheartening.

Hmm.. I so want ot provide a knowledgable reply for this sort of response, but I am afraid my understandings in thsi subject are a bit limited. I believe the answers are something like "no" there are little to no regulations, there is some info out there but it is difficult to know. Yes I agree that it is 'scary'. I might add that many people are speaking out and trying to do something about it, and so more and more info is becoming available, and pathways are being created for people to have a voice and effort changes. I might recommend while you are here you can keep searching out GMO and related terms on this site, find out more on the issues and who some of the concerned citizens here are, and what they are doing to raise awareness and help make a difference.

Here is a link to an online excerpt from the book "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan. There used to be a law that any imitation food product had to be labelled, but the rule was tossed out in 1973.
Ingredients are supposed to be listed, but an item listed as "Natural Flavor" doesn't have to be elaborated on. Natural flavor of what, exactly? It is scary, but the FDA does not have our interests at heart. They aren't looking out for our well-being... only you can do that.
Right now, the only completely sure way to know that your food hasn't been genetically modified or processed is to buy certified organic (or likely at your local farmers market too). Who knows how long it will last before the FDA screws that up, too. But to answer your question, right now there is no law that states a food must be labeled as genetically modified.
