10 July 2009. During coverage of Italian G8 protests, these shots of the outlying areas of the L'Aquila earthquake zone several hours after the eight leaders of the world left and the G8 summit closed.
The earthquake, that struck in April, killed around 300 people. Nearly four months later, as local residents remained in camps on food and water rations, it seemed little had been done to clean up the area and begin reconstruction.
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was quoted as saying to the homeless in the camps just after the quake, "Treat it like you're on holiday".
