hmm dont we think that a real vampire would be more like dexter than those that have been portrayed in recent film? i mean, if i was a bloodsucking monster who had to fear for his un-life on a nightly basis, i sure as hell wouldn't go around wearing douchy hairdos (yes i'm talking about Edward) and all the black and red getup.

Man, I couldn't agree more with this article. I used to be an avid reader of vampire novels in my youth and back then they were raw, visceral, and brutal stories. It pains me to see how the Twilight series, among others, have somehow managed to bring a mature theme down to a 'tween' level. It's a shame, really, that kids these days have such a skewed perception of vampires.

That wat I'm sayin wat ever happen to the sexy, pale, intoxicating vampire, that could make u do anything. Today's vampire is the void of appeal and quite frankly not that interesting. Which is said because there was a time that if a good vampire was on the screen I wouldn't second guess surrendering myself.

I must say I do agree. This new angsty emo vampire is damn near pathetic I mea they give girls the idea that real guys are only going to want to cuddle with them while never actualy trying any thing sexual. Any female who lives in the real world knows most guys are very sexual and quite open about it some in a more polite way than others. Point blank guys know what they want and unlike these unrealistic vamps they aren't afraid to ask or in some cases demand it.

I take big issue with Twilight because I don't think the main character's obsession and dependance on her vampire friend are healthy role models for the twelve year old girls who are eating it up.

if you like monstrous vampires you should check out Vampire the requiem, by white wolf. Vampire the masquerade was cool too, even if it got a little out of hand near the end. both are worth checking out, even if you might have to settle for downloading pdfs of masquerade.

There are some pretty weird (run-offs...pun intended) from the original...too many to mention...BUT...Vlad must be writhing in undeadness in his crypt in Transylvannia...lol..."Down with the fakes"...but as my learned colleague, Cztheday, so rightly expressed, it's pure fantasy, and should be taught as such...

I was a little worried as I read that last paragraph that perhaps the author had forgotten the most crically important attribute common to ALL vampires...they exist only in our imaginations.

But I have to say I think I have seen everything now when it comes to our fiendish fanged friends. My daughter brought a few volumes of a manga series to me called, I believe, "Chibi Vampire?" The main character is sort of the "odd duck" of her vampire family (Consisting of Mom, Dad and 2.5 vampire children). She must "feed" periodically...except in her case, instead of DRINKING the blood of others, she builds up too much of her OWN blood and must RELEASE it...into a person who for some reason is feeling down...and her blood, of course, makes them feel better.

I pity the fool who hands Dracula one of these slender volumes...
