Think about it! Everyone could have health care, we'd balance the budget and stop wasting billions and billions on interest on the Federal debt, we could pay back all the countries who have been keeping us afloat. It's a win win situation.

The deserters here use tactics to re-frame or confuse and distract from the REAL issue(s) at hand; 1) people receiving the health care they need; 2) there is no profit for the greedy in "prevention"; 3) the greedy bastards place more value on their profit than human life; 4) the greedy bastards have had more than democratic / honest control and influence over government & public policy and decision making.

Making health insurance a public utility is exactly what HR 676 does.
You should all call your representatives and demand they support HR 676, EVERY DAY.
Also, show up at the town hall meetings, demanding the same.
Don't settle for a "public option." The birthers/tea-baggers have been moving the ball down the field into the anti-reform direction, and if we want to even get the public option, we're going to need to push with full force and demand exactly what we want.

Don't kid yourself . The things this market is free of are , regulations , conscience , ethics , moral fiber , and justice . I realize that some fear more for them = less for themselves . This is a lie ! INjustice is what makes robin hood the HERO . Pirate movies and piracy itself has made a resurgence in the last decade . They will have their own party soon enough . People feel the injustice , they see it every day . Some of you seem devoted to keeping things the way they are . I am glad you got yours . Remember this , there is nothing in this world that cannot be taken away . Having a little compassion wouldn't kill you , but a HMO that doesn't , surely will .

There is a difference between fair and regulated markets and making sure they stay fair, and a free for all where human life is expendable just so some hot dog can make a buck.
Whats it going to take for people to realize that capitalism, and the so-called "free-market" are not the same thing?
Those unregulated free markets just cost the country trillions of dollars......there were regulations in place but thanks to that corporate goo-boy Bush, and his corrupt administration , these were suspended. There was no oversight.......and you and your children and grandchildren will continue to pay for cleaning up that mess for generations to come.
Meanwhile back at the corporate offices...all the crooks, thieves, liars and thugs got to keep all their toys, their millions of dollars worth of real estate and YOUR MONEY! Yippee for unregulated free trade!
The insurance industry collects billions in premiums for policies they have no intention of honoring. The premiums, supposedly a pool of resources for paying claims, gets used for anything and everything but! And these premiums roll in day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year from millions of people.
How many ways on how many days do you have to be dipped in poo before you realize something stinks....and it could be you.

I tell you what, if you think "nationalization" is such a great idea, why don't you pack up your bags and go live in Venezuela for a while. What you proposed is SO close to Chavez's solution for everything, I'm SURE you'll feel very much at home there.
Chavez nationalized the petroleum industry, and production dropped by about 25%.
He instituted state-run markets, set all the prices for goods, increased minimum wage, and VOILA! It was no longer profitable to produce agricultural products so farms started collapsing or selling their profits abroad because--this will shock you--you can't run a business at a loss!Meanwhile, the artificially high wages made businesses unprofitable, so they started laying people off. That was just obscene! So they passed another law that froze labor, making it illegal to lay people off. So the business owners had a choice: run the business on a LOSS, or close. Tens of thousands of businesses closed, and SURPRISE! their employees are unemployed.
Not to worry, Chavez just nationalized the ones he wanted and gave them as gifts to his friends.
So then Chavez took over the farms and nationalized them. That was a great plan: he turned over productive ranches and farms to uneducated peasants and guess what! They don't produce enough food in Venezuela to feed themselves, so now the government has to help import food into the country (poutlry, beef, etc) from Argentina and Brazil.
But wait, there's more! Why should anyone have the right to own MORE THAN ONE house? It's immoral to RENT a house to someone, so they passed a law that protects renters who stop paying rent--they can't be evicted! And what do you think happened? They stopped paying rent and people lost their investments. Yes, middle class people who had bought apartments as investments, a form of retirment planning, lost them.
Then the socialists decided that they should just take over entire buildings and give away the apartments.
They took over the hospitals and OOPS there is a shortage of medicine! They brought in Cuban doctors but WHOA most of them are not even doctors! Who cares! They are Cuban socialists who want to take care of the poor, that's all the medical training you need!
Then they decided that the news agencies were just a bunch of liars, out to make a profit, so they closed most of them down, and took over their facilities (another form of 'nationalization').
So now Venezuela has food shortages, even gas shortages, health shortages, but don't complain, it's a socialist paradise!

rockfallingstarmillionaire - you are attempting to confuse the issue with "artificial low rates" etc., etc.
The truth is, some people are greedy and place a higher value on money than human life. We have murderers in prison for it and we have murderers in fancy homes and office towers who look like polished sh#t for all the money they spend on themselves while gramma dies of cancer because she was deemed to have a pre-existing condition.
The wackos argue that Obama's plan to provide health care to ALL Americans will neglect cancer gramma, but it is the greedy murderers in insurance companies who are doing that.

The bigger truth is we can't decrease greed in people, but we can limit what they can do by what the market will bear without the government intervening.
When the govt wasn't in the way, gramma and grandpa got taken care of. Since they got more involved, it hasn't worked.
The Obama plan has a panel for rationing. That is not greedy insurance companies. That is greedy government deciding who lives and who doesnt. Now THAT is wacko.

Another loony liberal socialist idea. The better idea suggested and our history shows is leaving it to the free market to lower costs and not paying insurance for regular checkups. Insurance should only be for catasrophic care, the rest to free market doctors to compete for the lowest cost, which is already being done to a smaller degree in the US. Save your socialist ideas for the Soviet Union. oh ya, that didn't work out.

You "free-market" loons drive me up the wall.
No, history DOES NOT prove that the free-market works.
You want the free market? Look at John Updikes "the Jungle." That's the free market. Look at the slums in Brazil. That's the free market. Look at the sweatshops in China-- that's the unbridled free market. Look at the facist rule of Pinochet. That's the free-market at work.
This idea that "the free market" self-regulates, and always makes things better is demonstrably false. I don't know why you moonbats hang on to this argument. It's a fucking opium dream hatched by Milton Friedman, and it's a fucking LIE. But you crazies repeat it like parrots with no actual knowledge of history.
History in fact proves the OPPOSITE-- that GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION is what creates prosperity. Hell-- it's the GOVERNMENT that backs our fucking currency!
John Maynard Keynes, with his New Deal is what got us out of the Great Depression.
And look around the world, you loon. The three most socialist countries in the world are already out of the recession-- Japan, Germany, and France.
The USA still isn't recovering, because all the wealth in America is sitting in the bank accounts of the top 5% doing nothing. It's not creating jobs, it's not creating products, it's not changing hands, it's not adding to the GDP, it's not flowing through the economy, it's sitting in one spot collecting interest so that these fat cats can live off the interest without actually producing anything or contributing a goddamn thing to the economy.
Take that money, and tax it, give it to the poorest people in America, and that money will be spent into the economy immediately, paying off credit card bills, paying for groceries, paying for mortgauges, paying for car repairs, paying for gasoline, paying for health care, paying for every sector of the economy aside from yachts and rare coffees made from jungle-cat turds.
John Maynard Keynes was right, you and Milton Friedman were wrong, and history plays this out, a million times.
Ronald Reagan was a dipshit who didn't understand monetary policy or economics.
Let your stupid "free-market" notions die already. They are WRONG on so many levels. They are immoral, they are bad for our health, viewing pollution and resources as "externalities" not to be considered, and what's more-- THEY DON'T EVEN WORK IN REAL LIFE.
The jig is up, and history has proven you wrong a thousand times in the past 20 years. It's over. Let this opium dream die already.

I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promise....I say after eight years of this administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started....and an enourmous debt to boot!"

the answer is not in the problem, it is in the solution.
passive non-participation is the solution and it can take down the insurance industry. the questions are; do you have the courage to break the law? are you self relient enough to be secure? can you be passive agressive against strong pressure?
it worked for Gandhi and broke england's back.
stop gambling against yourself, cancel your insurance. if you feel insecure; build your house on high ground out of brick (wolf proof), start your own business and join in your community.

While we're at it let's do away with our whole capitalist system and become a socialist country where nobody is allowed to make a profit, just work, work, work for the good of the people. We all know the government is soooo good at managing stuff.
The bad thing about the mean old insurance companies is this-- they make money on us. But, hey, we think we should be able to pay them, over years, a few hundred dollars in premiums and they should pay out thousands, even hundreds of thousands if we need them to. They should "insure" us for cheap, not make any kind of profit, and pay through the nose if we get sick.
I have an idea--- instead of paying for insurance, why not just take that money and put it in a savings account, and if we get sick we can use THAT to pay our medical bills. Sound like a plan?

Insurance is legalized robbery in my opinion. Sadly, the whole hole point of insurance companies is to collect money and keep it. There is nothing inherent in their business plan or structure which makes human health or life for that matter the main purpose, point or motivation.
There is a reason insurance companies are on the list of Fortune 500 companies and it ain't about you and I other than getting and keeping as much of our money as possible.
