Both thumbs up for this movie, even my friends who hate the sci-fi genre loved it. It's more than a cheesy movie with a huge budget, it has a very deep story which is awesomely backed by the special effects. It would be a great thing if we had more movies such as this one comming...

I wonder if we are misusing the term "plot hole" when describing the faults of this movie.
There are some open ended story eliminates however they hardly hurt the overall film. Actions that the characters preform such as the main character attempting a darastic ship-jacking in order to succeed in some long shot self interested goal is not a plot hole. It is something a desperate human being would do when confronted with the idea that his humanity is in jeoprady and he can see both a solution and an obstacle. By that I mean Wikus was slowing losing his place in the human race, Christopher Johnson told him the solution was in the mothership but would destroy his own goal of going home. Thus Wikus took it upon himself to do what was necissary to save himself no matter the cost.
The prawns not using their weaponry is something that can only be understood when you forget your humanity. The film explained it well by flirting with the idea that the prawns were simply drones lacking what there instincts require to make moves- leadership. Why did Christopher Johnson act differently then all other prawns?
I thought it was a fantastic film and used sci-fi genre as it was meant to be used.

The movie was okay but I expected better because of Peter Jacksons involvement. Too many plot holes for my liking. Who hits a dude in the face with a stick and hijacks his shuttle without even asking if he could come along first. Where did he think he was going to go? Why didn't anyone investigate the mothership during the 20 year time? Why didn't the prawns use any of their awesome weaponry in self defense? meh..

4.5 out of 5. I haven't been able to rate a movie that high in a long time. Sharlto's acting was amazing. To be able to pull those multiple emotions out and be that dynamic as an actor was very impressive and must have been hard to do. The story was very unique and incredible, seriously. The CG was flawless and innovative and very very inspiring.

I presume the guy being able to just control the alien technology and the aliens being so advanced but so primitive in their existence on Earth etc., but I still thought it was awesome.

I know District 9 doesn't hit UK screens 'til September 4th, but from the "Tomatometer" rating, I'm sure I can't wait to see it for myself...
