Origami Vinyl is a new store in Echo Park, CA that specializes in vinyl records and only vinyl records. In an economy where even contemporary businesses are having trouble staying afloat, owner, Neil Schield, decided to open a store that sells something that most people consider obsolete.

To many people's surprise, the store is thriving, and that could have something to do with the community it is located in. Origami succeeds where other record shops might fail by having friendly and knowledgeable staff as well as events such as in-store performances.

    • Echo Park is way more interesting than that girl led on. The musical selection at this store is annoyingly limited, but I am still glad it's there.

    • This is so bad ass. I fell in love with music b/c of vinyl (and Aerosmith on stage haha), so to see not only a music store opening and flourishing this day and age, but see a vinyl store open, that is awesome! I prefer the sound of vinyl. I personally collect old vinyl records, love the crackle :-)

    • Goes to show that if you know how to work the business....most anything can make it in this world of Disney and Wal-Mart.

Complainers get nowhere----that means you OMG MOM AND POP SHOPS ARE DYING.....because they don't do what this record store is doing: Thinking.

    • I love Vinyl. The cost of new Vinyl is off the charts however. Have over 6000 Lp's glad I bought most of them "Back in the Day"
Nice to see it making a come back of sorts.

    • This is great. When I was in high school I wanted to work in the local record store. They were all ways hiring but you had to be 18 to work there. I finally turn 18 and guess what? They announce they are closing in a few months. I was devastated. Glad to see record stores still popping up whether Vinyl only or a mix of both CD and Vinyl either way it's great to see them still out there. Until I have no other choice but to download music from the internet I will always prefer a hard copy of my music.
