It does look like the iPhone is starting to get some serious competiton in the Nokia N900. It's the first device running Maemo is Nokia’s Linux based OS, which allows multi-tasking. Expandable up to 48GB of storage, Physical slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel camera, Wifi, FM transmitter, Mozilla based browser and it supports Flash (ha! take that iPhone!)

    • One cool thing about Maemo is that it's an open platform. I just pulled out my N770 that was gathering dust in the corner and installed the "Hacker Edition" (a backport of the modern OS to the 770). Not sure you'll ever see that level of community involvement in the iphone.

    • It's a lot better than their N97 which was meant to be an iPhone killer. Specs wise its right up there with the big boys, most impressive.

But the iPhone is more than tech specs, its about a user experiance, something that is greatly enhanced by things like the app store. This is wha Nokia are going to struggle to replicate

Yeh, i'd agree the App store where most other phone companies will struggle to compete. It really is the iPhones (apologises for using a horrendous marketing term) USP, in the same way iTunes in general is for the iPod.

For me, i've been trying to think what i use my iPhone for, and it's mainly the browser, tweeting, and facebook. Yes i play a few games, but not to the extent i'd miss them I don't think. So something like the N900 is an attractive possibility for me.
