    • I'm sorry I have to say that the best way to manage your money is simply balancing you bloody check book, and maybe keeping an excel spreadsheet to help you keep track of your short, mid-term and long-term saving goals.

    • I use excel with customized equations to track everything. Secure enough, portable, easy to use, easy to evolve based on my needs. Auto payments aren't the best for me as I'm a contractor and taxes/deductions vary on a monthly basis, which is a pity. Even if I were on salary again, I'd continue to use excel (or Google Spreadsheets).

I've used this method for about 9 years, even after trying Quicken and Mint.

    • desktop calculator, and debit everything.... NO checks so no bouncing, I'm fiscally conservative. If I don't need it, it's not bought so whenever I do have an unexpected expense, say car repair or whatever I generally have enough t cover it. Of course maybe I have an unfair advantage living in poverty most of my life, you go long enough not having and you quit wanting..... Also managing money online doesn't seem very safe, maybe it's not that common but identity theft can really mess up your finances.....

    • I have liked Mint.com , although I much prefer my BlazeWallet iPhone App as is easy to use and setup , and I am looking forward to seeing retail adopt "purchase with your phone" capabilities.
Plus with BlazeWallet I have access to multiple credit cards, points programs, reward programs, my Stocks and Bonds and much much more. BlazeWallet (yay)

    • I've never used any money management software. I never even balance my checking account. I know generally how much I have, and my monthly expenditures are pretty consistent (except for an occasional splurge, after checking my balance and making sure I have more than enough to cover it). As long as I've been employed I've never had an money issues.

    • I use Quicken for Mac 2007 to manage finances, track spending and investments.

I pay bills either by web site (for services that allow online payment) or snail mail. I usually have one local bill monthly and one additional quarterly via snail mail.

I have been looking into Mint.com but I like having my data live on my local system.

Note: Quicken for Mac 2007 is very long in the tooth and has a few problems. It is native PPC code so it runs in Rosetta on Intel Macs. We may see a native Cocoa universal app next year.
If you choose to go with Quicken for Mac 2007, you will have to update the certificates in the program as they expired recently.

    • Hey Sarah!

I use desktop Quicken and it's a LIFESAVER when it comes to budgeting and reporting. I only wish BlackBerry would release an App like iPhone has!

Before I had to sell my iPod Touch to pay a bill (ironic huh?), I LOVED the free Quicken Online App for iPhone because it allowed for a concise update on my finances and synced with Quicken Online BEAUTIFULLY which in turn also synced to Quicken Desktop!

It MAY not be your cup of tea but give it a try...you may just save some money and REALLY like it!

    • I use desktop Quicken to manage my finances, although I pay the bills through Bank of America. I also use Mint for the personal finance analytics it provides.

    • The only check I write is for the lawn folks - everything else is automatically taken out each month. I use Quicken for keeping track of everything. Since I have everything automated payment-wise, it's easier to look at that for my current balance than what's currently listed on the bank website.

As for Mint, I really like it but it doesn't yet have some of my banks - which kills it for me. Ideally, I'd love the Quicken purchase to mean integration of Mint with more institutions while retaining the look and feel. I've never been a fan of Quicken online, so here's hoping Mint doesn't fall into that pit now that Quicken owns them...
