We attended the launch of the Transition Towns Brixton and met with Duncan who explains the benefits of a community currency. You can even pay for your Hemp products with the Brixton Pound - Director - Carlo - "We accept the Pound as payment for all Hempower products.

Locals are empowered to ofthe fer incentives and local based discounts for payment using the Brixton Pound and the economic value circulates within the community - So before you rush off and start converting your cash - They can't be spent in Supermarkets.

    • Why don't I start my own currency, then? And what the hell did hemp have to do with this? What hemp dealers? What are you talking about?
      I'll make my own currency called the Brighton Pound, which is equvalent to around £2,560 sterling. In lower denominations you get the Ounce, then of course the Half-ounce, Quarter-ounce, then finally the Eighth. These are the equivalent of £160, £80, £40, and £20, respectively. For anything less than £20, you must divide your Eighth into even smaller denominations, working on the current exchange rate of 1 Eighth = £20, though this rate is variable in response to global economic conditions.

      It's not the most numerically efficient, or easy to understand currency, but damn it!, it works. This is what the guy in the video was talking about. Local economies using local currency.
