Until now, if we wanted to know if food was past its best we had to rely on the accuracy of the dates printed on the packaging - or our noses.

Well, some clever clogs have come up with packaging that 'sniffs' the food for you. Basically it detects the levels of ammonia present and changes the label accordingly.
