Which Carol Browner should we believe?My answer is neither. Do the research yourself, then decide.
As for my opinion, because I know you are all so interested in it, it is a TAX that will greatly increase the pain of this recession for the majority of citizens.

@ Dcat: Are you saying the "end" justifies the means?
I agree with you that we should be good stewards of our resources for the sake of posterity, but Cap and Trade doesn't guarantee the air will be cleaner. It guarantees companies and residents will pay more to continue to pollute as much as they currently do, and can pollute more if they have the funds. The tax that is collected is then processed through facilitators (private corporations) and government bureaucracy, who take their cut before passing what funds remain to politically connected green projects.
This gives an unfair advantage to multi-national corporations that have the funds to pay for polluting, and will certainly put some (possibly many) small to mid-size companies out of business in a recessed economy.

What do we need more a higher tax or clean air? No matter what we have to do something to clean up the environment now, and if it means higher taxes then it is worth it. We are only borrowing this land from our grandchildren. What do you want to leave behind for them as your legacy?
