Willie Nelson's 24th annual Farm Aid music festival will feature performances by fellow board members of the organization such as Neil Young, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews. The all-day concerts happen on Sunday, October 4 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Missouri, in the heart of America's farmlands.

Other performers on the bill include country star Gretchen Wilson, rock bands Wilco and Phosphorescent, and a host of other talents.

Doors open at 12:30 pm Central Time and the show runs until 10 pm. The live show will be satellite-cast via DIRECTV which will match donations through October. The show will also be webcast, streaming live at www.farmaid.org, beginning at 5:00 pm ET.

The organization's goal has been to strengthen family farms in America and support the Good Food Movement, helping to keep families on farms. Through concerts, benefit dinners, ad campaigns, and other efforts, board members Nelson, and the other rockers promote the cause, raising nearly $36 million for programs.

Farm Aid unites farmers, artists, consumers, and concerned citizens. The organization also works on educating about issues that affect family farms such as genetic engineering, food labeling, factory and industrial frame farms, and Mad Cow, Bird Flu and other diseases.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for foodbank collections for hungry families in the region.

______________
The small family farmer is being systematically pushed out by corporate conglomerates. This is an American tragedy. Hopefully money raised will actually go to help small farmers who farm sustainably and who protect the culture and traditions of America.

Boycott Monsanto. Boycott GMOs. Stand up for the men and women who really care about the health of the environment and the body. Those who work with the land and preserve biodiversity instead of stripping it for profit.

To the family farmers who still survive and care about our planet: You have my undying gratitude for your work and sacrfice. Thank you.

    • The OrganicNation.tv crew had a blast at Farm Aid 2009! Our favorite part was the press event with Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Dave Matthews and Wilco - all speaking about the importance of family farmers, keeping young people on the land and getting organic food into our homes and schools. Check out the photos on our Flickr page!

Here's a finger for you Monsanto. You know what you can do with your poisons.

I had a locally grown salad today, and it tasted good.

      Organic is the American way.

    • Well I started watching it till Gretchen Wilson came on stage and started annoying me... The band that opened was better. But I got to tune in later for Willie, and Dave Mathews..

    • Maybe the farmers can hire a lobbyist or two to campaign against Monsanto and their ilk. And against the current "food" bills that will make it even harder on smaller farms.

They should have had Farm Aid right in front of the White House. I think we need a big convergence on Washington Dc to tell them like the Europeans that we don't want GMOS in our food.

    • I don't know. I was posting this for the information regarding family farms. It doesn't mean I either know or condone any sponsors. But I probably won't be posting any information like this again anyway since it isn't appreciated. It seems unless you post Glenn Beck BS or some other entertainment or distractionary politically partisan rhetoric here it doesn't get a notice. Or of course, if you are one of the favorites here.

    • Oh, and since Monsanto is also located in St. Louis, play loud enough for them to hear.

It's also good to know that so many here care for the plight of family farms in America.

Well Maryland Heights (where the concert was played) is only 11 minutes away from Creve Coeur (Monsanto headquarters) so I'm sure they'd have no problem hearing.

Too bad the performances took place on a Sunday night.
