A British tourist took a photo of something that had been heard of but rarely seen. Angela Plumb was holidaying in Duvefjorden, Nordaustlandet, when she saw the mother bear with a seven-month-old cub hitching a ride.

Dr Aars a Norwegian polar bear expert explained why the cubs might ride on the back of the mother.

The theory is that although young bears can swim they haven't yet built up much insulating fat and may be at risk of getting too cold.

Whatever they reason they certainly look cute like this.
