An end to road prohibitions

i've driven down roads without lines before... i slow down not out of consideration so much as i'm terrified the person coming the other way might hit me 'cause he's not sticking to his side of the street.

my thought is that road signs appeared for a reason... i'm not too comfortable driving around someplace witout stop signs and such. sometimes they're needed, like a road that ends and you have to turn left or right. there's spots in my neighboring town where that red octagon is the only thing warning you that you're about to drive into trees if you don't stop, especially at night when it's pitch black (and, coming to these dead-ends going 10-15 'cause i'm expecting it, i still barely stop in time). that, and areas where you crest a hill and suddenly you have to turn a hard right, and the only reason you know it's coming is 'cause a road sign warned you.

nah, i'm good with road signs. keep 'em.

I'm definetely interested in seeing how this would turn out.

I definetely like the idea that no traffic signs and laws require people to act based on their own considerations for others. Other than psycopaths, I think it might actually work.

The only way I'd know for sure, though, is to see what no rules on the road would look like in big cities like Toronto, New York, etc., where people are generally more "angrier" on the roads.

Why does someone post news that was reported in 2007 now?
Unless there is a follow up in the article linked (which is from 2007 and the original Der Spiegel article is from 2006)it holds no value.

simple rules woud be the easiest way to regulate traffic, plus no one said anything about removing the lanes from the road just the silly signs like "yield" I mean honestly who wants to get into a nasty accident for not slowing down 1-3 mph?

Common Sense alone dictates in a 4 way stop. Speed limits should also be more suggestive though on a main highway 10mph over the limit should not be an infraction, especially when traffic is slow enough anyway.

If the DOV really wanted to keep people safe they woud just demand giant foam floaties around every car and make it illegal to sell a car that can drive faster than 30 mph. However they choose to come up with stupid road regulations that simply allow them to ticket you and cover their payroll that year...yes ladies and gentelmen there IS a traffic ticket quota.

LANES...not lines. Honestly if you need a line on the road to help you drive inside of a lane then maybe you shouldn't be on the road, you're literally an accident waiting to happen. If you can't use your own judgement and spatial skills to "avoid" becoming a menace on four wheels don't drive. It's that simple.

I think, part of the problem on the road in the US concerning accidents, stems from the fact that a lot of us learn much too late in life. If your parents didn't start teaching you to drive by the time you were ten. Then maybe you would lack the experience you need, driving on different terrain and under different conditions, by the time your own children are ready to start learning.

Well the town only has 1000 residents, so the roads sans rules can work in a place like that. Just don't bring that to Miami. The drivers here are so retarted they NEED to be told what to do.
