Next in line: Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), $244.7 million;
Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), $214.5 million;
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), $209.7 million;
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), $208.8 million.
Seven members of Congress are worth over $100 million. But here's the sad part of the story. These numbers are down from their highs in 2007. Ain't that a bitch?
The biggest losers include Kerry, who lost a whopping $127.4 million; Warner lost about $28.1 million; Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) lost about $11.8 million; and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) lost about $10.1 million. Let's take up a collection. Oh, never mind. The health insurance industry is already on the case.

crazy government fucks... we need to hire/elect broke homeless people, they can probably do a better job of running this country
-
Indeed, our government needs to have smaller salaries. Even the president doesn't get paid THAT much (except by his endorsers and lobbyists), but our tax money needs to go to helping us and not paying for our senators next car or condo. If they were truly in politics for the people they wouldn't accept such big salaries and they would donate it back to the IRS revenue or charity..... or me.

I'm thinking of running Independent for Drier's seat. My net worth is -$150,000. Think I have a shot?

Government by the rich - for the rich.
Now I know why we cannot get anything passed pertaining to health care reform.
Now I know why we cannot get anything passed pertaining to the middle class.
Now I know why there is a war on the poor.
Now I know why the rich gets richer while those without means gets screwed.
Now I know why the government is corrupt and obstructionist.How Orwellian ...... oink oink we pray for change as the fat pigs feed.
-
wait a minute we're ruled by the rich? Noooo way!

I have an idea! Cap of 70k to congess members with free housing and transportation. Outlaw campaign contributions and lobbying. Also, make it a heavy sentence for breaking this law. If you want a campaign endorsement it needs to be word of mouth and not linings of the pocket. Make it an honor to serve your country in this way. RISE OF THE MIDDLE CLASS! Furthermore, It shouldn't matter republican or democrat. If the voice of your state is heard and not the opinion of a lawyer then we will all be in a better place.

4 of the top 5 are democrats
Maybe they should help the poor a little bit more. Seems they have the money to do it with. I don't. -
Do people understand that these people dont make money off the government? It would be VERY much impossible to receive it from the government!!!! These people invest their money, work hard, and also own or run their over big businesses.
-
Monicboom, are you serious? You think the super rich got there by working hard, investing their money and running a business? Wow, you and I will never see eye to eye on this matter. I think most of the rich got there by stepping on as many people as possible in their desire for a little more of the all mighty green. Plus I'm pretty sure having rich parents helped in alot of cases.
But it all comes down to does someone having over $100 million dollars understand the daily goings on of someone making $50,000? Somehow I seriously doubt that. With that kind of money all these people crave is power. And we know what power does to people....
-
No Wonder this cogrress dont give a damn about we the people. If we the people had some authority maybe we could make these dirty politicians lose some of their wealth and power to the people. And to think that these cheap crooks are setting the rules for us to follow and they will decide if, when and how we get sick and get treatment. Some of the more educated and intelligent constitutional Lawyers are right, our system of Government is in fact a two party dictatorship functionng as the "Good ole boy system".
-
So now both parties are staffed by the ultra wealthy. How can anyone any longer maintain that there is a difference between the two parties or that the Dems actually give a damn about poor people?

I think it is important when looking at the wealth is to also look at where and when it was received. Did these people have it prior to entering politics? Also we need to look at what they do with the money. Donations, Tithing etc.

As the lobbyists keep passing their bucks, and the corruption tickles on down thoughout government.......the rich shall keep getting richer......what a shame.....btw unemployment is over 10 percent and rising........237 millionaires in congress...why am I not suprised??
-
This is a perfect example of why we need public financed elections so new blood can be interjected into the democratic system that is clearly full of dirty money.

lobbyists in washington should be illegal... it should be a crime punishable by long prison term to accept "bribe" money from a company by any government official.

if they make over 300,000 a year, then they should have to forfeit their public wages.

As ImConcerned pointed out, what is upsetting is not that these men make and earn their money. Mark Warner made his bucks on cellphones and communications before he ran for office, making all his money on his own.
However, there's a problem when lobbying money makes non-millionaires into millionaires. That's bribing, what in Washington they call "lobbying" and it can easily lead to corruption.
It's easy to hate millionaires, there is a culture of envy in this country against people who do well. If we despise them, let it be for the right reasons and not out of simple envy.
The best thing we can do is to place a ban on lobbyist money going to politicians.

It's like when basketball players get to the pros and earn million dollar paychecks... What motivation do they have to stay sharp? These old, rich, white, CongressMEN can bicker themselves into gridlock all they want. They can still go home and enjoy their riches during their hundreds of days of vacation. Yay!

Our Representatives should be judged by their records, not by their bank accounts..Those who are less fortunate, and desire power and wealth, are more easily corrupted than some of their wealthy dedicated colleagues.
-
I think a lot of politicians start out trying to change society for the better but after they are elected they become corrupt by a corrupt system and lose sight of their desire to be a "public servant". However there is no excuse for becoming greedy and dishonest. The majority of them should be voted out of office.
