If they were allowed to marry and have relationships then maybe they would avoid all this crap...

I wholeheartedly agree, sexual repression leads to all sorts of justifications and hidden lusts and passions. Removing celibacy would be a good start. Marriage is good too, but it should also include homosexuals as well.

Wow, it's sad that the biggest corporation in the world, Religion, is allowed to make money, not pay any taxes and abuse kids with no shame or remorse.
They should be treated as a business and let people sued them for every wrong they commit!!

I guess the pope has finally decided to throw the nuns under the bus, so the priests can keep driving it!

I don't find this shocking, sad but not shocking. women abuse children too, they just tend to do it in different ways than men.
I have a problem with the argument that there would be less abuse if they were allowed to marry and have normal sexual relationships. Married people abuse children because all segments of the adult population abuse children. People don't abuse children because they are sexually frustrated by desires to have marital relationships with adults, they abuse children because they are sexually attracted to them/ want to have a feeling of power over a weak person. If clergy are willing to break the rule about sexual relations and wanted to have them with adults, why wouldn't they? For a priest to have sex with a man or woman is morally wrong according to Catholic beliefs, but to have sex with a child is just so incredibly evil and much more condemned according to teaching. It doesn't make sense to me that the ability to marry would really change the abuse situation. That said, I do think clergy should be able to marry because I don't buy the arguments about the prohibition.
I think the reason that people focus so much on the Catholic church and other religions is that it is an institution that tends to be very visible in communities. We can point institutions out and say things like these people have a high percentage of abusers in their population, but they are never compared to other segments of the population, like say teachers or others with access to children. Teachers abuse children yet there is not prohibition on teachers marrying or fetters on their access to dating opportunities.
