WASHINGTON (CNN) -- White House National Security Adviser Retired Gen. Jim Jones issued a rare public statement Monday vehemently denying media reports that suggest U.S. President Barack Obama has privately decided to send close to 40,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan."Reports that President Obama has made a decision about Afghanistan are absolutely false," Jones, who has a low public profile, said in a statement. "He has not received final options for his consideration, he has not reviewed those options with his national security team, and he has not made any decisions about resources. Any reports to the contrary are completely untrue and come from uninformed sources."
The statement was issued shortly after CBS News' veteran Pentagon correspondent David Martin reported that Obama has "tentatively decided" to send four more combat brigades to Afghanistan and thousands more support troops starting early next year. That would bring the total number of new troops to close to the 40,000 more troops originally requested by Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan.
Two other senior administration officials told CNN that the CBS report and other similar speculation is false.

Cheney is lilcking his lips. So much money to be made for the privatized military and the corporate ticks who are sucking up all the tax revenues and bankrupting the country.
Can 40,000 troops and a few trillion more in debt fix Afghanistan? No, but lots of people can make more money.
Russia had 500,000 troops in Afghanistan and lost and it led to their end as an empire and they ended up broke and subservient to the USA. How broke and far down can the USA go before they deside to spent this money on beefing up internat USA security and investing in intelligence? - 3 months ago

I like both Patton and Russell.... they both were very clear about what they believed was right... in this case patton's quote from ARES works best. The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his."

Anyone who is thinking ANY US leader will fix the issues of the middle east is a total moron! But to badmouth a president who's actually done good in the world rather then messing things up more (Cough Bush cough...) Shows just how overly stupid some people are! If any leader were to just make an instant choice, nothing would be solved ! We've seen that happen before! I honestly don't trust the majority of the people who have been (or in some cases are) part of the US government, but Obama just might be the smartest leader America has ever had! Lets face it ! Bush sure as hell didn't make any smart choices on war!!!! If he did,we would have at LEAST attacked the right country!!! OH! & if people STILL didn't know, the 9-11 hijackers had NOTHING to do with Iraq!!!

Our government is constantly inventing new and exciting methods of population control. That is what it is right? I mean what else could it be? The only thing this accomplishes is more corpses for absolutely no reason. Just imagine how much worse it could be if our politicians had the gaming technology our children have today. With so many war games out there........
Wait, I digress..maybe that is what they are doing with their free time, learning how to kill as many innocent people as possible by playing video games. - 3 months ago

It is easy for Current armchair critics to make negative comments, but one needs to understand that such decisions are very difficult and complicated to make. The wise man takes his time, the fool makes an instant decision without blinking - as would Sarah Palin do.

No. Christ was a pacifist. He did not carry a weapon. This so called Christian-Muslim war is a hoax. A true "Christ"ian does not carry a gun. A true "Christ"ian does not invade a country to build a pipeline and steal the oil (and poppies). Remember the ten commandments? This is a war of crooks, bullies, and killers. Does anyone care about the planet or life? Reverse course please before it is too late. Stop being bi-partisan with killers.

where are these troops going to come from? the army is basiclly broken, the only other place would be military installations around the world or maybe...
lets restart the draft... maybe then we can see a much needed revolution against the powers that be in the USA...
the people are no longer in control and their government is no longer of for or by the people.... the senate, congress and white house are full of whores. who’s corporate pimps enjoy using to get what they want.

What are you talking about? The US Army is not anywhere near broken. Unbelievable. Both wars combined account for less than 10% of our active duty personnel. And recruitment is way up. They met all recruitment goals last year for the first time in years and they are exceeding that this year. The Army is as strong as ever and they can handle this mission. There is no question about that.
The real questions are: What are we trying to achieve? Can we afford it? Does it make us more or less safe?

To those who complain that Obama is taking his time with this:
It's a damn good thing he is. He's been consulting with Defense Secretary Gates, Jim Jones and a whole host of other military and civilian experts. When handling a war you must make the best decision possible. We went into Iraq and Afghanistan without real plans, now Obama is trying to rectify that (currently we're withdrawing troops from Iraq). In addition, President Obama has whittled down the options to three possibilities and according to previous reports, hes supposedly favoring a plan supported by Defense Secretary Gates and Secretary of State Clinton. That plan only involves a 30,000 troop increase. But contrary to popular opinion, the troop #s aren't as important as the political solutions. The plan focuses on securing all the major cities, building infrastructure and decreasing corruption within the Afghan Government.
Also, Britain has pledged a troop increase in Afghanistan.

I cannot believe my eyes.... all those zeros. 40,000 more troops. Did he send out 13,00 not too long ago? Or said he was going to. Why are these numbers increasing. He said he would pull them out. Why can't people see through this charade. Obama is a joke!

Get a clue. He never said he would pull troops from Afghanistan. He said he would end the Iraq war and escalate the Afghanistan War. That was a campaign promise stated repeatedly. Where have you been? I think it's probably a mistake, but he's doing what he said he'd do.

Fox is not the one reporting this.... Sounds like Obama and team are testing the waters... also what is tentatively decided? He is about to recieve the political hit he deserves but our troops need a decisive commander and Chief. Way too political about this...

"White House National Security Adviser Retired Gen. Jim Jones " is he back from the dead? wouldn't suprise me if he was and working for the US government, he seems to have a knack in getting people to go into certain death.
Here's an idea, why don't we just send everyone over there to help out, not just the Army, but teachers, children, Old people in wheelchairs, lets see if we can win this thing together! - 3 months ago
