The graph that caught my eye was the very first one - apropos of our Real Recovery topic this week - how are recent college grads affected?
(That said, when you break it down by education, college grads have done comparatively well - those with less education have been more adversely affected.)
The worst affected group is young, African-American men who are less educated. This neat interactive graphic compares all the different demographic slices. Where do you fall on the graph? Has that been your experience?

What we are in is a depression not a recession. The statisics prove it out. Its time for another jobs works program for youth as in the 1930's and its time for the administration of Barak Obama to start the real energy independence of America with green technologies to foster in a new American era. Without it we are going to be left way behind the Chinese and the Germans for new energy efficient technologies that will lead the way to a new economic boom.

I'm still in college right now, but my sister has graduated and she has a degree in biology and a minor in math. In other words, a prime candidate for the developing green technology market which is one of the only industries seeing significant growth.
She hasn't been able to find a job, anywhere. Period. Part of it is discrimination, no one wants to hire young people, but most of it is that there are no jobs around. Not even menial ones to work part-time. This was in the San Diego area too.
The only thing that's getting you a job right now in THIS economy is connections, I'm positive that's how 90% of people recently employed got their job. Friend of a friend etc. etc.

..me I am and I'm not just unemployed, I volunteered..assisted..ok, helped somebody out a few times :( regularly..
but truthfully, I'm disenfranchised, and narcoleptic, and ooh i quit a job once because I am autist' k!

while the numbers do look pretty bad, i think its unfair to place 16 year olds in the same category as 24 year olds. its the difference between a highschool dropout and a college graduate.

I'm a senior in college and I definitely had a hard time finding a job this previous summer so I could pay rent and bills. Luckily I have a few years of Subway to fall back on and was able to find at my local Subway. But we get applications there -every day- and I think we've hired 3 new people in the past 4 months. That's a lot of people who don't get the job!
It's gotten to the point where you don't just have to be qualified for the job but you also have to have a lot of luck on your side because it's almost a lottery.

So we are all out of work with no end in sight, some even say this is just the tip of the iceberg. One question, who the hell is going to foot the bill for our mandatory health insurance coverage??? Change is coming!!! Does that equate to the nickels and dimes in our pockets???

My demographic has a 16.4% unemployment rate. Unfortunantley I'm part of that 16.4%.
-
Its all about the industry someone may chooses, see I thought working in a retail store in my teenage years but now I got sucked into the restaurant industry which there is always a place looking for a cook. So if I can't find a job right after college, I can still pay my bills from cooking. I would say choose the right industry

very interesting graph. I am in the 55+ group and work full time. BUT, I was laid off my other two part-time jobs in Dec. 07 and Jan. 09. Three of my four employees are in the 16-24 group. They have part-time positions, but only make minimum wage. I work for a large corporation and it is their policy now is to only pay minimum -----they can get away with this wage because unemployment is so high and these college students are desperate for a job!
