Jon Stewart Catches Sean Hannity Falsifying Footage To Make GOP Protest Appear Bigger (VIDEO)

The tea party protests continued last week, as Congresswoman Michele Bachmann held an anti-health-care-reform rally on the steps of the Capitol. While she estimated that 20,000-45,000 people attended the event, the Washington Post reported it was actually more like 10,000.

Still, that is a sizable number of Americans exercising their right to free speech and assembly, and that warrants news coverage. But Sean Hannity and his team did more than cover the event. They not only inflated the number in attendance with their words, but actually used footage from a heavily-attended protest this summer to make this health care rally appear more popular. Hannity even pointed out that this was a huge crowd for a Thursday, when the protest footage they used was from a Saturday.

Jon Stewart and his team caught this discrepancy and ran with it, pointing out neither the color of the leaves nor sky in the tacked-on video matched that of the actual footage. They went on to mock Fox by adding more video to the interview, this time from Woodstock and the movie "300."

Stewart and other organizations have repeatedly caught Fox news using every trick in the book to distort and propagandize political news in favor of the right wing. Their excuses are "MSNBC does it (not true,) all media except Fox has a liberal bias (not true,) or Fox is entertainment not news (half true.)" People wonder why America is so divided politically.

    I blame Fox news.

This sh*t isn't funny. I applaud Stewart for the catch, but dammit people this is dangerous. We have a massive and highly influential media organization intent on misinforming the population using deceitful and often manufactured tactics. THIS IS SOMETHING WE SHOULD EXPECT FROM A FASCIST NATION! This is absolutely the biggest threat to our way of life. We have to care about truth. We have to care about accountability. This network is playing with people's minds and lives. It is hijacking our country and our govt. They hide behind freedom of the press, but they don't accept any of the responsibilities of the press. AM I ALONE ON THIS? IS THIS AS BIG A DEAL TO ANYONE ELSE?

    Propaganda=by definition......

    1. information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.
    2. the deliberate spreading of such information, rumors, etc

so how does this make Hannity any better than Leni Riefenstahl and the Nazi's....???

It's sad that I trust a fake news show more than a "real" news network.

I think this should be illegal and that we should be able to fine fox news for these types of practices.

  •

as Jon Stewart pointed out, only about 3 hours a day on Fox News is dedicated to actual 'news'. The rest are 'opinion' shows. I think they should have to change their name to Fox Opinion. News is false advertising.

How is it that nobody makes a bigger deal about things like this? it seems to me like catching a "journalist" falsifying a story should at least get him suspended from the air and probably fired all together.

Hannity is a journalist? I thought that he was one of FOX's opinionators.

I think what bothers me about this the most is not that Hannity did it. But rather that people here (not pointing any fingers) would defend it. Defending anyone that represents a lie as news whether it is news opinion or straight news is bullshit.

Sean Hannity is going to reply to the Daily show clip later tonight. I can't wait to hear what was said about it on the Daily Show (I don't watch FOX news, not even for something like this) tomorrow. Hopefully, some other news shows will air their own segments about it so we can really see it blown out of proportion!

This is a business and whoever though otherwise was wrong. It's sad that people are losing their jobs over the company "change of direction" nonsense... but think about it, the new CEO of the company is a guy who ran MTV. There's going to be change...

You'll see this place turn into a reality network in about a few months. I GUARANTEE IT!!

Mainstream media just 'moves along'. They no longer try to expose the 'wrongs'. They may be afraid their 'wrongs' will be exposed too. The only things holding the 'wrongs' together is the willingness of others to just 'move along'. Kudos to Jon Stewart for refusing to just 'move along'. He exposes their shameful actions, complete with pictures.

what, that's impossible! a news network doesn't make mistakes like that. are they drunk? maybe such flagrant disregard of professionalism is a reflection on what they think of their viewers intelligence. " hell what do they know? use anything, those sheep will believe anything we say."

obviously they won't do it again.

slarabee's point of defending liars is right. i can't defend their right to free speech if it is a out right lie. there's the other thing, what can i do to conteract the poison being spread.
