How nice, the church demanding and pushing their views onto others... hummmm I wonder why would people hate that???
-
an ultimatum??? I say we go arrest this guy for attempting to extort the government.
-
Mighty Christian of the Pope and his merry band of pedophiles. No doubt Jesus would approve of this attempted black mail. \sarcasm off
-
Hmmm. Must be time to step up prosecution of child molestation by clergy of the Catholic Church.

"Do unto others as thou wouldest have them do unto thee." "Ye who is without sin, may cast the first stone." "All men have fallen short of the glory of God." "Love thy neighbor as you love thineself."
You know what, in the life and example of Jesus Christ passed down in the bible I see no mention of sodomy, and see that Jesus supped with prostitutes and so called sexual deviants, and those who were the outcasts of society, those persecuted by the current religous order and told them they were beautiful and had a place in the kingdom of God. He told them not to despair and that he had come not as the cure for those at peace, for those who were well off in this world but as a cure for those who were sick, who were downtrodden or full of sin.
He preached a gospel of acceptance to gentiles and jews alike and in the gospels of the passion in his most trying time, he healed the Roman soldier who had come to lead him to his execution when one of his disciples moved to strike him down. And rebuked those who try to judge others instead of reflecting on themselves and showing compassion.
These disciples of Christ who are so selfless, I grew up near a rectory myself, and had the bennefit of a catholic education as a child, should not deny their services to people they consider "unclean" all they do is make themselves into pharisees and philistines and none among us even the best among us are fit to judge. The work of clothing, feeding, and aiding the poor and downtrodden is a sacred and human duty and to deny love to anyone in a time of need bespeaks no human or christian decency I have ever been taught.
Jesus would point in shame at this action.

Well, pretty much the same tactics the 0bama administration takes against U.S. citizens.
Hurts when the bat gets used on you doesn't it?-

The Catholic Church should get there own ducks in a row before giving Mr Obama any ultimatums.
-
I thought the Catholic church had learned its lesson when it came to political manipulation?
These guys are going to go down the toilet if they pick up the old order again. They should stick to their new agnostic and loose interpretation of Christianity, or face oblivion at the hands of a well-informed public who will see them as the parasitic tyrants that they really are.

The definition of evil! "If you support equality, we are taking away social service programs that help the homeless and orphans!" I can't believe this. It's utterly mindblowing. I shouldn't put it passed them though, using the less fortunate as leverage hasn't always been a foreign notion to the Church.

Good riddance. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. I'm sure the people of DC will be just fine without you, without fewer molested kids to boot.
-
I'm the first to talk crap about organized religions, but I wish they would make my side a bit harder to argue. It's like shooting fish in a barrell now.
-
If the church is trying to muscle an administration to do it's political bidding, then the church is violating the separation of church and state. I say that if the Catholic Church starts doing that, then it's time to start taxing them, and taxing them hard.

So the Church is threatening to cut off helping the needy if DC does not bow to their views on gays? That does not sound very Christian.
-
As if I needed another reason to hate the church.

I wonder why the Christian folks on this site are not defending this??? Don't they usually defend everything the church does? I don't hear the mooooooo....

Sounds like the baby's threw the rattle out of the pram, "if you don't stop same sex marriage then we'll stop looking after orphans and the homeless"
wow they really know how to pick a fight, maybe the government could retaliate with "if you stop abusing kids we'll stop same sex marriage" somehow i dont think the church would agree to that one. -
May GOD forgive us all and bless all of those who truely believe in him
-
I'm sure there are some nice non-Catholic churches that will take up the slack.
-
Feed the world, sell the Vatican.
I love you Sarah Sliverman. -
i dont think this will end well for the church. gay marriage only affects gays; getting rid of social programs affects many more. bring it!
-
Bully tactics are the resort of people who want to control to others , but have no real justification . Good people exist without religious organizations . They will volunteer and donate to worthy causes without them . The catholic church will become an insignificant power structure that will collapse under its own weight .
