Adam Doster of ProgressIllinois reports that Rep. Don Manzullo (R-Ill.) is reacting in a revealing manner to the prospect of the Obama administration moving Guantanamo detainees to a prison his district. Manzullo told a local TV station that the detainees are “driven by some savage religion.”

That would be the same religion that members of the U.S. military practice, to say nothing of about one-fifth of the world’s population. Who knows, there are probably some practitioners of that “savage religion” in Manzullo’s own congressional district!

    • I guess the Congressman missed lessons in history. The action of Christians in the Crudades who killed many thousands of innocent people. The action of the Church during the Inquisition to punish and kill those who challange the power of the Church. How Indians were treated by good Christians.

    • To gain a basic understanding of Islam one should read the Koran. Then one can debate based on an understanding of the words written as opposed to either thinking the words make no difference or debating their meaning without having read them.

    • I really wish people would wake the fuck up and realize a simple, very important fact:

      Most of the more than billion Muslims worldwide do not blow people up, stone women to death, or hate Jews.

      Islam is not a "savage religion." There is no Muslim Pope who decides what Islam is. In the interpretation of people like Osama bin Laden, Islam is a savage religion. But it is a religion of peace to the multitude of Muslims who simply go about their day, not harming anybody.

      The Bible has some pretty savage shit in it. I suppose Christianity is a "savage religion"? The fact is, most Christians do not stone unruly children to death. The New Testament says women should sit down and shut up. I suppose Christianity is misogynist? To some, it is, but to many Christians, it is not.

      They were perpetrated by Islamic extremists. People who have a radical interpretation of their religion.

      It should be noted that Muslims spoke out against the violence in Mumbai, which killed many Muslims along with Hindus.
