And from the very start, the cannabis was a godsend for Sam’s family. “The first time we did it, we wanted to see if it would work at all,” Steve recalls. “It was an amazing experience, I’ll never forget it, as we watched what happened, it was like ‘He’s back!’ It was like all this anguish, pent-up rage and aggressiveness went away — it just calmed him down.” http://hempnewstv.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/10-year-old-with-autism-benefits-from...-

well from what i've heard THC in marijuana is the cure for cancer. so it's just another great thing it can do if it can help those with autism.

This is very interesting. If it works than I am for it. Every case is different and I'm glad this family found their "cure." And to the chick who was saying I hope his parents go to jail and "don't they know people die from marijuana smoke" You need to read the article, it the boy isn't smoking it. Plus people die from just about anything, especially stuff that's not supposed to be inhaled. Marijuana isn't as bad as other fumes. It's legal as medical marijuana for a reason. If you had a son, wouldn't you try everything to cure him? I'm happy for his family.

hang on,
why did the dad need to grow it in his backyard and then produce hash?
you know how long that takes?
It seems like if his son needed medicine quickly, he could just go to one of the many cannabis clubs in california. It's cool that it works for him tho.

yeah i'd have to agree some of that is an overstatement. you're not an idiot though.. Cannabis has been shown to have positive therapeutic effects for some of those illnesses but calling it a cure cannot be supported by research.

The essential fatty acids are superior at turning off cancer . I do not know if they always work , I have read the research of a doctor in germany who has claimed to have cured over 8000 patients with EFAs from flax combined with a sulfur based protein (to aid in absorption ) . Hemp has a chemical makeup for this process similar to flax . Combined with the fact that humans evolved with this plant , for at least the last 6000 YEARS . I wish I had access to the oil myself .

That is one of the main reasons as to why it isn't legal. Drug companies and doctors make far too much money poisoning people with artificial chemicals and radiation.

@guy - actually marijuana has been shown to shrink cancerous tumors and it's also used in the treatment of side effects for terminal cancer treatments, like the nausea from Chemo and stuff like that.
There has to be a lot more research done, but if you google the studies done by Harvard John Hopkins and other Universities I think you will be surprised to see the results are in line with Calgar's ideas, even if we can't call it a "cure" yet.

This concerns me. As a special education teacher I know how important it is to work with your autistic child to stop aggressiveness and the only way that will really make a difference is constant therapies and working with them at all times. Though I agree that Medicinal Marijuana is important and will be a big part of the future of medicine, in this case all the parents are doing is masking the problem. The child will never actually learn to control his aggressiveness but be dependent on something to stop it.

valid concern, definitely.
It may come as temporary relief from his aggressiveness but his parents should be thinking about the long term and how the weed will effect his developing brain.
Yes it calmed him down but after he grows a tolerance to the dose he will need more and he could soon be on a road to abuse, especially if he has learning difficulties and emotional problems. - 3 months ago

We must take our and our families treatment and management of conditions and diseases out of the hands of Big Pharma. This is not to say they don't have thier place, just that place needs to be balanced with other proven methods.

Well I hope his parents were arrested on the spot, tarred, featured, and sent to prison for no less than 634,765,209,105 years. Don't they know how DEADLY marijuana is?!?!? Haven't they seen how many people DIE every single epoch from Marijuana smoke?!?!
How dare they attempt to help their son.

You can consume THC in many ways- cooking it into food, smoking it, vaporizing it, etc. Usually the best way for the person is determined by the patient and doctor.

J_Jammer:
Well, the thing is that different patients may need different ways to take the THC in, and people have different responses to the ways it can be taken...for example, patients with throat considerations usually use a vaporizer, people who don't like to smoke can have it processed into food or even a pill. However, a surprising number of patients prefer to smoke marijuana because the effects are immediate and in some cases, it's not just the THC but all of the complexities of the marijuana plant that are needed - diff strains are used for diff medical conditions. Also, though there needs to be a LOT MORE research done on the matter, Marijuana smoke has been shown in studies by Harvard and John Hopkins not to have the same dangerous side effects that tobacco smoke has. In some studies, it's even been shown to decrease the likelihood of cancer and shrink tumors!
