It's not the bill we want and once again we've failed to elect another Teddy Roosevelt who won't bow down to corporate interests.
The best we can hope for is that it's a stepping stone to universal health care, but I doubt it.

ya, the same administration who is proposing this bill is funding and condoning these wars! They want our money and don't mind spending it. Questions and "what if" are still possibilities. HAve an open mind and see the middle ground

NOW (National Organization for Women) warns that the Senate will vote on an amendment similar to Stupak-Pitts that would prevent millions of women from obtaining insurance coverage for abortion under their version of health care reform, S1796. Is that the bill number or the year they intend to regress to?

The problem is that we cannot lose the entirety of reform to the abortion debate.
The Republicans will without a doubt use the abortion issue as a wedge issue becuase it is so volatile.
I fully support a Woman's right to choose but any amendment that restircts the using of insurance that a woman pays for, for abortion can be challenged on constituional ground later maybe?
I do not know all of the answers but one thing is clear, the opponents of reform will use abortion as a means to stop reform. We cannot allow that to happen.

I like the bill for the most part but, I think its too weak. I'm more interested in the House-Senate Conference Committee, which will produce the final bill.
The final bill will most assuredly be stronger, for It can't be filibustered. Only 12 hours of debate are allowed on it.

Let the real debate begin! Everything up until now has been speculation. Most of the opposition's arguments have been "what if" obsfucations about what "might" happen. Let's speak honestly about what this Bill really does. The benefits to our nation health care system, our economy and our US Gross National Happiness far outweigh the costs. I'll trade you two wars for one functioning healthcare system any day of the week.
